Thanks, Skyliner....Your pics are heavenly!! My husband and I are considering Greenville as a "retirement" area. We are thinking of early retirement and are very tired of these northern Michigan winters! Neither of us has ever been to Greenville and are looking forward to our first visit. We have a zillion questions about the area and your photos help us get a feel for the atomsphere. My husband loves the outdoors (to golf and duck hunt) and I love gardening and decorating. We both adore water sports especially jet skiing. Any recommendations on local lakes....we'd both love to live on the water?

Look to the beautiful and high quality neighborhoods on Lake Keowee, which are a fair distance from Greenville, but not too far because of their world-class amenities and setting. The ones I specifically recommend include; The Cliffs at Keowee Vinyards, The Cliffs at Keowee Falls, The Cliffs at Keowee Springs, The Reserve at Lake Keowee, and MonteLago. There are others, but I am sure you will discover that these are among the very best communities you could find in any part of the nation. Another lake to look around would be Lake Hartwell, just below Lake Keowee. I really love Lake Jocassee, which is above Lake Keowee, but it is never going to be built around because the property is part of a massive preserve. It is still a wonderful place to get out on the water though, since it is large, deep, beautiful and has numerous waterfalls spilling down into its cold waters from the mountains.

Wow!!!!
I live in New Jersey across the husdon river and apprx 6 miles from NYC. I am currently researching SC areas to relocate to.
I came across some horror stories about the crime rate and negative comments about Greenville I visioned in my head Greenville being like some of the bad sections in NY, NJ and was quickly turned off from the area; I had just decided to pass up on Greenville until I came across your beautiful pictures.. I must say thank you for giving me a clearer view of the area. Its not as horrible as I had envisioned it to be. You have given me something to think about. Words are not always what they seem to be. If that makes sense to you. THank you again.. : )

I cannot express how much your words mean to me personally, lizzetems. Thank you very much for taking time to post those comments and I agree that words are not always adequate representation of a place, especially when they can be used to paint a completely false image in people's minds who have never been there. Photos at the very least capture and freeze a moment in time, and if they are not staged but rather spontaneous, they have the ability to depict far more truth than a mere description could ever convey. Thank you again!
Edit: By the way, Greenville is actually far better in person than these photos indicate.

Skyliner, I just wanted to let you know I feel the same way as lizzettems. Your pictures are beautiful and one reason I changed my mind about Greenville. The Chamber of Commerce should thank you!
Since there are 15 pages on this thread, I'm sure if I already told you how great the photos are and how they paint an entirely different picture of Greenville than many articles and posts. (and thanks to g-man430 too)

You have my sincerest appreciation as well, justNancy! These kind of comments are one reason I strive to make a difference on this forum each day. I don't need these kind words to survive and you certainly were not obligated in any way to type them, yet they do encourage me to press on with a greater sense of respect and diligence, therefore you deserve you my deepest gratitude as a result.

To: lizzettums & Justnancy;
My husband and I are going to relocate down to the Greenville area next year. We took our first trip down there to check out the area in August.
Right now, we live in Northern NJ... I can assure you that we were so pleasantly surprised and loved Greenville. It was clean, beautiful, and surpassed any expectations we had. It is nothing like Bergen county or Hudson county or North Jersey at all. It's like comparing Apples and Oranges. Then again, that is why we are looking to move, we do not want to live in our area any longer. That is the whole point (for us).
The city is so wonderful. We were there in the evening, we walked around the Reedy Falls park, the bridge, and that area of downtown. Had dinner at "High Cotton" right on the river. It completely blew us away. The food was up to par with NY/NJ standards of an upscale restaurant. My husband said it was the best roast duck he ever had.
Families were wandering around with their kids, everyone seemed happy. And there was a Minor leaugue baseball game going on that night a few blocks away. We were in awe. There is nothing like this in NJ that we have ever come across. We especially liked the idea of so many families out and walking around, and having a nice night. You don't see that much here b/c everyone is racing to their next desitnation and no one has time for family, relaxation or fun. This is what made up our minds to really put this to the top of the list for places to relocate in SC.
For us, we like Simpsonville. It reminds me a bit of what Morris county (NJ) was like 20 years ago with farms everywhere still on the outskirts, and new homes being built... and close enough to all amenities.
The other thing we liked is there is culture in this city of Greenville. There are museums, art galleries that support local artists, theaters, the symphony, the zoo, good cuisine, and the bi-lo center too. I know I am forgetting many other things.
One MAJOR thing my husband and I will miss is the Pro-sports of our area... but I have to say that we are looking forward to going to a minor-league baseball game!

Hi everyone, to Skyliner, your city is wonderful!! I would never have imagined feeling so happy in a place even after all of your wonderful pics. The city has such a feeling of warmth and energy it is unexplainable until you visit. We are currently living on Long Island and were actually planning a move to the Poconos, but after visiting last month we feel so torn, while we love the Poconos, we don't think the quality of life will compare to your area, Greenville just seems to have everything we are looking for along with the warmest people we have met in a long time.
