The problem with putting a traffic light in the spot I think you're talking about is that it would slow traffic coming in from Woodruff Road, which could worsen the already bad backups waiting to get into Greenridge from Woodruff.
Where, name of shopping center and location please. I've lived in NJ, NY, Canada, SC, Fl, Alaska, and California and I've never seen traffic lights inside of a shopping center parking lot.
Looking at that map, it appears that those lights are not part of the development, but a new access road for it; like I said, I never heard of traffic lights in a shopping center. Shopping centers are private property, for example the "roads" in Greenridge aren't governed by SCDOT.
Looks like it's in the shopping center to me. Look at where the shopping center signage and outparcels are located on the site plan. The traffic lights are inside that.
we don't need traffic lights in greenridge, we need people that know how to drive. If anything we need less traffic lights in that area of woodruff in general. The on and off ramps for 85 and 385 should be redesigned so that the ramps are on the right side of the road, then you wouldn't need lights there.(like this) and lights like the one in front of the nonexistent Greenville mall should be eliminated as well.
oh and the roads that run through ICAR are actual roads, not a parking lot, and its a great quick cut to woodruff rd. if you are coming in that way.

It's an access road, and the out parcels are just that, that's why they're called out parcels.
Just to clarify, if there were traffic lights on the actual shopping center grounds, they would be between buildings A and B and M and N. Those lights are for entrance and egress from the access road, hence the green landscaping buffers.

G-man is talking about putting lights inside of Greenridge's property, and that's unheard of, to my knowledge. SCDOT does not regulate shopping centers.

Next time I'm up there I'll snap some pictures for you. It's possible that they are on an area that is owned by the local government, but they seem to be part of the mall property. The roads don't go anywhere but different parts of the mall parking lot.
And the lights do not look like regular traffic lights, they look a bit more square and boxy.
If Greenridge is unable to properly manage their traffic they should hand it over to the county to be better managed.

I've been to the shopping center and have seen them with my own eyes. 
The traffic lights are still technically part of the shopping center whether SCDOT or the shopping center pays for it due to them being inside the signage area. Maybe Greenridge would have to pay for their own traffic lights due to it not being a road owned by SCDOT but that is still no reason not to have them. They aren't that expensive. Time it with the Woodruff Road light.
