I found out a bit about the Target remodel yesterday by talking to an employee.
Sounds like it is going to have a full grocery section, including bakery and meat.
This is great news for me. Target's grocery section (especially meat) has been pretty great in other locations.
Not sure what the timeframe is for the remodel, though...
I assume the actual building won't be expanded. Don't think there is any room for that.
The thing I like about Target is the openness of the store...wide aisles, etc.... I hope by cramming in a full grocery section that it does not take away from the openness.
Recent sale of Lewis Plaza on Augusta Road, Greenville’s first shopping center, built in 1948. Preliminary plans are to redevelop the village-like center as a Publix-anchored complex with inclusion of a Chick-fil-A restaurant. Avtex Commercial Properties, Inc. bought the property.
Wow, this is big news. Where exactly will Publix be anchored? Where the old Earth Fare was located? This Publix will fill somewhat of a grocery void for the Augusta Road/Faris/McDaniel residents. And, with the new medical school starting this Fall, this area could see growth of residents with significant disposable income.

I assume the property consists of the original Lewis Plaza and not the former Rite Aid-anchored strip center.
Publix's Lewis Plaza store will be similarly the same to its McBee Station store in size and offering (grocery, pharmacy, etc.). Publix could go vertical here with a larger size store and a two-level parking deck above the store, providing ample parking to the supermarket and to other merchants.
Chick-fil-a could go with a freestanding store if it wants a drive through here.
The Antiques on Augusta (previously Earthfare and Belk) and Dollar General (previously Bi-Lo) buildings would be razed to make room for Publix and/or Chick-fil-a.
How long has Tortilla Maria ( http://tortillamaria.com/ - broken link) been open at 115 Pelham Road? I just learned about it today, but their facebook was started in December. They claim "all food is either local or organic." The website says they're in the process of acquiring certification to add a raw food menu.

I agree. I remember when the small Bi-Lo closed where Dollar General is now. (it was fondly called it the Baby BILO). The residents of that area were not happy with Bilo for closing that store. I remember Harris Teeter and others looked and tried to find a location directly on Augusta for years. Looks like Publix is finally going to make it work. Good for them. Long overdue.
It's good tried it this past weekend. I think they will make it. St Louis didn't advertise, wasn't really good, and the building was bad looking. They didn't do much to renovate it.
