If you work full-time and make $10/hr can you afford to lose an entire day's pay? Well this major retailer at the mall thinks you can. This will affect the entire state and we will all end up paying for it in the end. Spring is coming; time to plant some vegetables and fruit in the garden.

You mean, cut employees hours worked, not hours open. Not to sound like I don't care, but happens all the time in retail nationwide. Get more sales with fewer people / man hours.

It has also happened to thousands of businesses nationwide in nearly every industry within the past year. The one business in this country that seems to have endless "disposable" resources (i.e. tax dollars) available to waste on unnecessary growth while continuing to operate inefficiently is the U.S. Government. They'll discover the resources are limited when we the people either hold them accountable or lose our ability to be productive.

Sheesh, isn't it better to cut employee hours rather than to lay off? Some money coming in is better than none, IMO.

So, I went to Haywood Mall yesterday and looked for a department store that cut hours. Couldn't find one. In fact, all I saw were tenant spaces being filled by the likes of Pandora, Apple, Francesca's, and an expanded American Eagle. But the economy is terrible. That's what THEY want you to think.

Well the economy is so bad that Belk has cut the hours of their full-time staff from somewhere around 40 hours to 24 hours a week. Sorry, but if that isn't a sign of the shape of the economy you have missed the signs. Yes, our state ESC will pickup the excess for those that lose those hours but they don't have the money either.

I can't believe you went looking for this...it wouldn't be apparent unless you wanted to buy something and couldn't find a clerk to ring your purchase.

I thought you were talking about store hours. Next time, please be more clear. Oh and signs? You mean the signs of Apple, Pandora, Francesca's, and an expanded American Eagle under construction at the mall right now? I can't believe you had the nerve to start a new thread about this with no proof to back it up. My proof that you're wrong: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...LR6iAD9E837VG2
