I don't know the job market for your skills, but jobs seem to go to people who have family or church connections. Take care of your own is an atitude I've seen. If you come up join a church or another social networking group. Most people I know are broke and make do from one day to another. Housing can be found pretty cheap. If you pick a trailer park check out the upkeep and the frequency of police visits. I rent my trailer for 200.00 a month but only because I'm out so far in the county. Buy a scanner to moniter police operations, as your local paper may be tourist oriented and not actually cover the local news. The Anderson-Independent Mail covers Hartwell news better than the Hartwell Sun. More objective, less protective. Try accessing the papers online that border where you 're thinking of moving to.

not really
I have to agree with "exileinsc", alot of what he said was true, but i don't regret the move, i lived in ny all my life and this place is like paradise compared to ny. But you can stay and try to change alot of what's going on or you can move to the unknown and hate "it" also. I have experienced alot of what was said by exile but i am not "accepting" it, so for those who are stuck in their neanderthal southern ways, it's very noticeable but not acceptable!

Comments like this make me want to spit.
Why do people move from where they are because "it stinks" and then try to turn where they go into where they were? Don't some of you realize that maybe...just maybe, where you are escaping is a craphole because of the social and economic policies that have been put in place over the decades?
Has it ever occured to you that maybe, just maybe those "neanderthals" *might* be on to something and know something you do not? Do you think their areas are in such demand because they are just like the "North"? HARDLY!
Just look at S.E. Florida. It never used to be like it is...very opposite. Until the area was flooded with people from the N.E. who could not go out of their comfort zone and experience something outside of what they were used to...and blamo - S.E. FL looks just like the N.E. in most regards and people AGAIN want out.
These "backwoods" "Ignorant" "hillbillies" might have something to teach you about life, society and family. OPEN your eyes or do everyone a favor and go back to the place you came from. If not, do YOURSELF a favor and embrace the culture you moved to.
I'm currently in CT, have lived in FL and NC so I have no dog in this fight aside from a dose of reality and being honest at a core level.
Regards,

Although I do believe that anyone of us has a right to move to SC or wherever we want (it is part of the United States whether or not some folks accept that) I also agree it's wrong to move to an area and then say negative things about the local residents, just because they don't meet your expectations or agree with your lifestyle.
However, in some cases, if the change is for the better (better education, better racial relationships, a cleaner environment) I don't think there's anything wrong with doing your best to help those changes become a reality. But the way to do it isn't with rude criticism, it's by example, and one example is to demonstrate kindness, acceptance and humility.

I grew up in Central NJ (hamilton township) and hate the Trenton area with a passion. Couldnt wait to get out. I guess it's right for some but not for me.

Maybe you could tell us a little of why you hate it so much? It could be helpful if someone had the same needs as why you hated it.

High cost of living
High taxes
bad weather
bad bad traffic even in the suburbs
offers nothing to do
to many strip malls
nothing to do
schools aren't that great
a lot of crime and drugs
political corruption

Well first of all - I would have to say that I live in the Trenton area - but not Hamilton. There are lots of good parts and lots of bad parts. Hamilton in particular has both. You can live in a very nice area with great schools...or in an area where gangs are an issue.
I live in a town called Chesterfield. About 15 minutes south of Trenton. Its a great town. Good schools. Things close enough. But I have to be honest with you - I am pondering leaving the great "garden state" myself. Its very expensive. And its not going to get cheaper any time soon. My taxes have risen $3000 in 3 years. You really need to do your research. I don't know where you'd be coming from so I can't compare areas for you. But I can tell you that you probably will need to increase your salary. A one bedroom garden apartment rents for 950/month - depending on the area you want.
I have lived in a lot of parts of the state....if you have any questions I'd be happy to help.

I take it there is "nothing to do". With such high taxes I really have to wonder if there is corrupt politics. Yikes! Where is ALL that money going??? We have the same problem here in my town (MA.). What once was a country town now have stores upon stores upon STORES!!!! And the town is BROKE??? I have to pay to place my trash on the curb and they shut off ALL the street lights on ALL non main streets (only street lights on rt#6). That was a great idea someone had to give tax incentives to build these GIANT stores in our cute little town.
