Thanks Biscuits&Gravy for the info! After doing our homework I think we have settled on Greer. My husband can get a job either in Spartanburg or Greenville. Being central will also allow us to visit either city for the different activities. We also won't have to pay high city taxes or have to deal with the crime. We found a church with a Christian School, and there are plenty of houses in our price range. From what I have read, Greer is a beautiful place. Would you agree? Any additional info.??? Thanks again!

Yea, but reading your posts at UP and here, I think it's fair to say you are not one of the "SanFransico Values" type of people who will be walking down the street mostly naked sharing your "values" with everyone around you...like it or not.

Most people want that no more than they want someone on the bus with a bible screaming they are all going to hell for 30 minutes non stop.

I certainly would not have a problem with you being in town based on your posts as I'm sure you are a good, responsible citizen. What more can you ask really?

That man was me. I suggest you reread the post. Where did I say "narrow minded Christians?" I didn't. Don't put words in my mouth.
I think bigotry is immoral.

Artsy, liberal neighborhood in/near Greenville?

He asked SPECIFICALLY whether Bob Jones University is representative of the culture in SC, because he didn't want to be around the "narrow minded Christians".

Now, I'm not setting out to upset you, BUT we are not going to cater to the "politically correct" crowd on this issue. You wouldn't want the bible shoved down your throats, neither to we want to live in a town that caters to a lifestyle that we believe to be immoral. Fair enough?

Greenville doesn't "cater" to anyone and it shouldn't. It shouldn't "cater" to Straights or Jews or Whites or Blacks or Gays. No group or person should be "catered" to. All should be treated equal with dignity and respect. As a gay man, I want to be treated no differently (no more, no less) than a straight man, because in the end, straight or gay doesn't truely define who we are.

I respect your views as a conservative Christian.

Your previous sentence about "Does Greenville cater to gays", sounded a bit prejudice IMO. A replacement sentence could be "Does Greenville treat everyone fair and with respect".

Welcome to Greenville!

I think you are seeing a very real example of ideological difference (Speaking in generalities) between "Northerners" and "Southerners".

Northerners generally sacrifice more for the rat race at family expense while Southerners generally sacrifice material things in exchange for a stronger family unit. Money does not make a family.

There are exceptions of course but having lived in both places and looking at a macro view, that has been my experience and findings.

I think what somewhereelse is saying, is that those ideologies follow most Northerners and they don't even realize it and without realizing WHY you "had" to leave your home because it became a rude, expensive craphole you ultimatly turn your new home into the same thing...I.E. Your right on!

I don't think you have to look too far to see that the south doesn't have exclusive rights to being the only area that is being changed. Not too long ago there was a beautiful golf course and farm land walking distance from my house and now 20 years later Starbucks just bought that last piece of farm land (it was a hill) and leveled it to put up a plaza ... and oops! says Startbucks, we didn't realize there was a cemetery here! Ya, right. (Maybe Starbuks didn't know but I am sure the developers did).

I am moving south to be warmer ..... period! Why should I have to suffer the cold because I was born into it? Huh?

Default stereotypes

When I come to the SC boards, I read about how awful the northerners are, but if you heard someone saying that the people in South Carolina are uneducated, bigoted and ignorant, you'd take offense..and you should.

I thought we were all just people trying to find a place to live where we can be happy.

Now I'm A Little Scared After Reading These Posts. I Live In Naples,fl. Where There Is A Very Visable Line Seperrating The Haves And The Have Nots. And Racism Is Everywhere. And The Majority Of The Population Consists Of Hispanic(non-english Speaking) And The Very Wealthy Old Or The Wealthys Snotty Grandchildren. I Am Desperatly Trying To Get Out Of Here And I Was Thinking About Spartanburg Or Greenville Sc. But Now I Am Even More Confused.

I'm sorry for misquoting you. It had been a while since I read your post, and was stating MY understanding of it, from memory. My impression was that you did not want to be in a city with a great deal of Christian influence--I do recall "narrow minded" being mentioned. Nevertheless, please accept my apology if I misunderstood you.
