Has anyone regretted their move to Greenville area? (Columbia, Charleston: real estate, house)

I don't know if what you did is against the rules here, but nonetheless it is really shady and classless. The post that you quoted of me was never intended for this forum because it wasn't written in this forum. I specifically wrote that in the politics forum and you had the gall to bring it back and post it in the G'ville forum. Why? What was your motivation? I wrote that almost 5 months ago. Are you my personal internet stalker?

The County of Greenville is actually beginning a 2-year mission to develop a comprehensive plan that should help to begin adding limits to the growth in sprawl. How effective it will be is anyone's guess at this point in time. I don't think we will ever have to worry about becoming the next Atlanta though, fortunately. There is too mch competition in neighboring regional metros for us to grow that fast. One thing more people need to think about is living in the city rather than the suburbs.

I almost never see the Confederate flag (I assume that is what you are referring to) in Greenville. Seriously, I never notice the flag on car decals or being flown outside people's homes. Everyone that is literate in this state knows how it got there in the first place...and we know it's a compromise to get it where it is now....Columbia is the STATE CAPITOL....the STATE HOUSE isn't owned by the city, and the city has no control over what's placed there. If the capital was still in Charleston...that's where the flag would be flight....and so forth and so on. The flag isn't on the dome anymore and while i feel it should be in a museum....the vantage point of the flag isn't highly visible anymore. It's behind a statue and can only be seen going driving a 0.1 mile stretch via 1 road......Gervias street. And to notice it the flag actually has to have a constant wind to flap around in or else it's very hard to see.

I'm really disappointed in the people in the Greenville [and even the Charleston] thread that always bring the flag up in some attempts to make their city seem superior or more progressive than Columbia. Stop spreading lies....that couldn't be more farther from the truth. Let's get one thing straight right now......Do you honestly think that Columbia is worried about what they can't change?.....Nope....because we don't worry about what our other metro's are doing better than us or worse than us. The truth is....Columbia doesn't compete with Greenville or Charleston...it competes with other comparable cities in different states and countries. Each of the areas in SC have their lane and their backdrop.....Charleston has it's history, port and beaches. The Greenville area has it's mountain backdrop, and international industrial segment. Columbia has it's political and college driven, Knowledge based jobs are our future[now] with rivers, lakes and state and national parks as our backdrop. We can't be Charleston and we can't be Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Charlotte or any other City...we can only be Columbia...confederate flag on the grounds or not.

PS- I've been to Greenville on numerous occasions and i have some family that live in Spartanburg and Anderson. I can honestly say that it wasn't for me. It's a beautiful area and i enjoyed myself, but it seems as if 80% of the people you meet in Greenville.....aren't from Greenville. They will be from Seneca, Taylors, Greer or some other place in the area. I've met very few people actually from Greenville itself. I've met a lot of people from the Upstate in Columbia and down here in Savannah. Some say the miss it while other's say they would never go back other than for a visit. But i'm sure that's true of any city...........

But i repeat....unless you want to get into a contest of "Who's City is Better"....while in Greenville....leave Columbia out of the thread unless it has something to do with Columbia.......thanks!!!!!

I have nothing against Columbia. In fact, it has some good things going for it. My original point was that the Confederate flag is not nearly as "in your face" in Greenville (or any other reasonably sized metro in SC) as the media would have some outsiders think. The implication that South Carolina is some backwards, racist state is something all of us get tired of.

I only mentioned that the Confederate flag is more "in your face" in Columbia because it is so visible on the State House grounds. Whether Columbia residents like it or not, the flag is very much associated with the city simply because that is where the State House is located. It is similar to the way in which a lot of outsiders judge Greenville based on Bob Jones University, even though it is a private college that happens to be located in Greenville (yet it has nothing to do with representing the views of Greenville as a whole).

I was not trying to make Columbia look bad, but I understand that it is probably a touchy subject to those who live there. Hopefully, the flag will eventually be moved from the State House grounds into a museum.
