-Construction to start in early 2011 on manufacturing facility at ICAR. Financing for it to be complete in mid-January 2011. Furman Company is the developer.
-$33 million, 220,000-square-foot plant. It will initially have two assembly lines capable of making about 350 buses.
-90 people hired so far to work at temporary manufacturing facility. Number expected to double by mid-2011.
-First Greenville made bus to be completed on Thursday.
Just wondering, and maybe I missed this somewhere along the way.... The article I read today about Proterra completing their 1st Greenville-built bus tomorrow kind of reviewed all the Proterra-related events the last year or so & talked about the construction of their permanent manufacturing facility.... But it said they're still based in Golden, CO, and made no mention of corporate offices moving here. That IS the ultimate plan.... Isn't it?
Thank you President Obama and Federal Congressional Democrats for making this deal happen!!!
$20 million in Federal Stimulus money certainly brings jobs! Not to mention thank you to the City of Greenville Taxpayer for paying the rent for Proterra's facility! Also, thank you South Carolina taxpayers for the nearly $4 million to train the workers for this plant!
We should also thank all the municipalities (a.k.a the American taxpayers) across the nation that, with the help of Federal money, are buying these Proterra buses.
Woohoo "Socialism!"

There certainly IS a place for government in the lives of its citizens, and infrastructure/mass transit is one of the FEW legitimate areas. This benefits everyone, not just a certain segment of the population. This is the kind of thing government SHOULD be doing, not over-regulating businesses.

I agree that this was a great investment by our elected officials. Just think, though. If the majority of local citizens had their way (in terms of electing our national leaders, a.k.a. Republicans) these funds would not have been available for this project ($20 million in "stimulus" funds that the Republicans opposed), and Proterra may not have been able to create all these jobs in Greenville.
