Hi . I was wondering if anyone can suggest a scenic place to take long walks for exersise in the Greenville area ? It can also be in surrounding cities....

If its indoor , what would be a huge area to walk each day ?

Or outdoor , your best pick

The Swamp Rabbit Trail. It's an ever-expanding trail system being developed in Greenville, ultimately connecting the Conestee nature park to downtown, to Furman University, to Travelers Rest. Right now, a substantial portion has been built. It's a great walk, and offers rubberized portions along most of the trail.

Indoor - about the only place I can think of is Haywood Mall. With 2 levels, it should have plenty of distance. A great in-town place would be Cleveland Park. Also, Legacy Park in the Verdae development off Verdae Blvd (between Laurens Rd & Woodruff Rd). Then there's also Paris Mountain State Park (fee area) adjacent to the city. Enjoy!

Definitely the Swamp Rabbit. Park at the Cleveland Street YMCA and walk to and around Cleveland Park. Or on over to Falls Park. Very nice.

Here's a map of Swamp Rabbit Trail through the city.

I highly recommend taking a trek through the Furman area. Here's a map of the entire trail.

Another vote for the Conestee Nature Park. We also like the Furman Campus itself.

Although it is a bit of a drive to get there - Cowpens National Battlefield - plus Strawberry Hill USA near there should be opening soon!

One of my favorite loops is the following:
  1. Park in the Richardson Street Garage.
  2. Access Main Street via Piazza Bergamo, then walk up to Legacy Plaza and cross over to the Hyatt Plaza.
  3. Walk down Main Street to the River Walk.
  4. Travel north to Linky Stone Children's Park.
  5. Turn around and head back down the river into Falls Park on the Reedy.
  6. Follow the river walk (Swamp Rabbit Trail) south toward Cleveland Park, passing the Major Rudolf Anderson, Jr. Memorial along the way to the right. (photo reference (http://www.flickr.com/photos/24638974@N06/2355808822/in/set-72157604120918667/ - broken link))
  7. Once in Cleveland Park, stay with the paved path to the right of the river. (photo reference (http://www.flickr.com/photos/24638974@N06/3016489832/in/set-72157604120918667/ - broken link))
  8. After passing Canine Corner Dog Park on the right, cross over the bridge to the left and find Fernwood Nature Trail (across Woodland Way).
  9. Follow the path in Fernwood nature preserve.
  10. After completing the nature trail loop, exit and continue south along the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
  11. Turn around at the Cleveland Street YMCA and return north to Cleveland Park.
  12. Instead of crossing the street (Woodland Way) and walking along the same path in Cleveland Park, cross the bridge to the right and then re-enter the park on the road (Lakehurst St.) just past the bridge.
  13. Almost immediately on the right is a sign for the Eagle Trail. Follow the trail along the ridge overlooking the park to the left.
  14. After passing the tennis courts, follow the path across Lakehurst Street and over the small stone bridge.
  15. Follow the path left along the creek and park, passing the zoo parking and playgrounds on the right.
  16. Cross over Cleveland Park Drive and continue to follow the path back into Falls Park on the Reedy. If you have time and want a small break, stop by the beautiful little Rock Quarry Garden at the intersection of Mc Daniel Avenue and Ridgeland Drive. (photo reference (http://www.flickr.com/photos/24638974@N06/2399744429/in/set-72157604120918667/ - broken link))
  17. After returning to Falls Park on the Reedy, simply walk back up Main Street to your garage, or stop for refreshment along the way.
There are many ways to deviate from this loop, if you want to change things up occasionally.

Don't forget Paris Mountain State Park. Indoors you pretty much have to stick with the mall or a fitness center. There's nothing scenic about them, but you take what you can get when the weather's bad.
