Honestly, I don't know what an executive assistant does, but I assumed whatever it was it was worth more than a guy who can unload and/or load a box on a truck, sorry.
I have an exec assistant....her job is to relieve me of as much computer, paperwork, calendar management and other clerical tasks as possible. Here in a large NYC corporation there are different level exec assistants...for example here where I work the level goes from 1-6....with level one being a basic lower paid exec/admin assistant to level 6 being a more specialized exec/admin assistant that would have a degree and support a more senior level executive....those assistants depending on years of experience, education and where they work can make over $70k a year....my assistant is at around $70k a year in salary.
Definitely not a job that just anyone can do and the more sought after bigger corporations here put the exec assistants through a lot of rounds of interviews and background checks before hiring. Here we have teams of exec/admin assistants.....they are invaluable to our day to day functions.
In Greenville the most an admin can hope for in pay is $9-$12 an hour.

WRONG. I personally know a few office administrators in Greenville who make much more than that and they aren't even in the largest local corporate offices. You obviously (although not surprisingly) don't know what you are talking about.

This is totally incorrect, and once again you are spewing information based on nothing more than your own preconceived notions. I know administrative assistants in Greenville making much more than this. Heck, I know receptionists/front office staff in Greenville making $12-$14 an hour. This is not uncommon in many industries and professional offices in Greenville.
You frequently like to promote the idea that most people in Greenville make $9-$12 an hour. I don't know where you got such ridiculous information, but it is clearly false. Most people in Greenville don't work in manufacturing, and most are making more than $9-$12 an hour. Many people are on salary. Many people work in banking, retail, medicine, education, engineering, etc. Yes, there are hourly manufacturing jobs but they hardly comprise the overwhelming majority of employees in Greenville as you frequently suggest.
I'm sure it is about time for you to post that picture you took a year ago of people lined up outside the unemployment office. Go ahead and do that, for the 18th time. All but the most uninformed reader will know to take it with a grain of salt.

It's also worth noting that making $14 an hour (29k) in Greenville is actually a little better than making 70k in NY, based on cost of living indexes.
So far, I'm convinced that Greenville is at least worth a closer look. Hopefully I get a job in NY soon so I can take a vacation to visit!
After looking at Florida a little, it seems the Carolinas are the cheaper as far as cost of living and taxes. I understand lots of NY-ers are moving down to the C's for these reasons, and I'm no different, I think many of us are looking for a similar lifestyle.
I'm thinking about moving to SC and will keep my current FL pay while is about $25 hr not including the regular OT that is required with my job.
