Default My visit to Simpsonville

I visited Simpsonville in the middle of July for a couple of days to get a good feel for the area. We have never been to SC and only did our research on the Net. I have to say that I was so excited about the trip and what I found on the Net, that I was a little let down when I got there. Not let down over anything major, just things that may be minor to some and major to others. To give examples, we drove down the "Golden Strip" and I have to say it wasn't all that "golden" to us. I'm from South Jersey and if anyone knows Rte 30 around here, it's no different than that. For those that don't know, it's nothing more than a main road with older stores and newer stores mixed in, no biggy. We went to several new housing developments and I was shocked at how close together the houses are and that although they are huge, they hardly have any backyard! I'm talking open your back door and you have 10 maybe 20 feet to the property line! What a shame, the houses are beautiful. We did drive through some established communities that had much bigger yards and the properties were beautifully kept, you just have to keep looking. I was shocked that there really wasn't a lot of traffic. Every time we got off 85, there was shopping districts everywhere, with a lot of big named stores, such as Peir One, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. and still traffic was great! This I liked! Oh and the fact that you could go to any restaurant imaginable! Try Flat Rock Grill, Melting Pot, Macaroni Grill, I was really impressed. We went to the movies at Hollywood 20 off of Woodruff Rd, very nice area and obviously where a lot of the upper class shop, you could just tell by the way people were dressed and by all the shops and mall in that area too. We also went to Downtown Greenville and I loved it there. It was so neat with all the shops and Reedy Falls was really cool, my kids would have loved that! Bottom line, I could see myself settling in somewhere after spending a week there or more to find the right area, but we decided to wait another year or so and then go back. I just feel that with the amount of stores, housing developements and all, that place is going to be booming in no time. Tarffic may not be bad now, but give it a year or two and then what, we are stuck in the same over crowded type of town we live in now. So we shall see....

Lisa,
I'm originally from SJ as well, Linwood to be exact. I've lived in Los Angeles for the last 8 years and my wife and I visited Greenville in June after researching it online for 4 months. We loved it. We visited numerous developments all around. I like Simpsonville but Greer had just as nice homes with more property. We're planning on moving there in April, probably rent for a few months until we find the right town and neighborhood for us. Best wishes, Bobby
