I lost my mother due to complications from a stroke, breast cancer, and lung cancer, in 2012. She was 75.
But that isn't my main point here. We are, and have been, entering a period where many deaths will occur, despite medical advances. The Baby Boomer population, which my Mom was really not born in (1936), is now the focus. Like WWII vets, we are now starting to see baby boomers pass away in great numbers. The Baby boomer population (defined by most as 1946-1964 by birth) are now 50-67 years old.
The next decade could be a marked by a great increase in assisted living, nursing home living, and of course, death. I don't think anyone, including those involved with Obamacare, are planning for this. But it is a must. Obviously, the costs will be prohibitive, and the quality of life for this generation will decline. I post this not with any answers, but just a reminder of what is to come. Are we ready? I don't think so.

Not sure this is a post for this thread. This thread is for loss and grief support, not for political or social observations.
