I lost my best friend to alcohol and drugs 4 years ago. I knew the guy since I was 5 years old and we were friends until his death at 48. Thats 43 years. During the last 5 of his life he simply lost everything then he lost his health and death followed. Sad part is we use to drink together but I quit a long time ago and he did not. I miss my friend and named my dog after him in remembrance. Anyone else have to go through this?

My husband actually died from literally drinking himself to death September 3 2014. Sadly he had mentally left me long before that and by the time he physically died he had very little left of his life. He died alone in a dirty apartment and his body wasn't found for three days. Before that we had a house, two dogs, vacations a marriage all of our bills paid and in short we had a life....now he has nothing.....It is very sad.

I watched my best friend kill himself from alcohol and tobacco. He died of throat cancer at 46. He drank at least a fifth of bourbon a day and smoked 2-3 packs of cigarettes. Even while he was in chemo he drank. He left his wife with 90K in bills from his habit (hidden from everyone).

It was a very sad day to see such a good person succumb to his demon. I still miss him, and I still curse him.
