I am having a hard time of it.
of course you are....of course you are....and it's ok to do so....you need to grieve, putting a dog down is one of the most difficult things a human being must do, especially if you live alone....

I've had to do it many times....but I will suggest this to you....go out and get another one...it won't be the same dog, but it will give you faithful companionship, love and greet you at the door, like no husband ever would....lol

Honey, know that your loved, and your not alone....God bless you and give you strength to get through all this....and then give you a blessed life beyond.....

Hugs and sending love
Creme

Smilinpretty, I am so very, very sorry for your loss. Our animals are our babies for sure. You have been through so much, and I know Dixie helped you through the loss of your husband. I lost my kitty girl of 17 years in May. I still miss her sound, the feel of her fur, her loving looks at me, just everything. They leave such a huge hole. We all are sending you lots of loving thoughts and hugs as you go through this.

Smilin, you might want to also post your memories of Dixie over in Pets>Rainbow Bridge - maybe a picture? Sort of a permanent memorial....we'd love to see her.

I'm so sorry - it is never easy. With time it will get better - may you only have the warmest memories.

First time I'm seeing this thread, smilin'. I'm so sorry about Dixie. How are you doing? Have you adopted another furbaby yet? My cat, Chopper, has been such a good baby to me and has helped me "get over" my Mickey. I think I waited 2-3 months then went to the pound and adopted Chops.I switched species until I'm ready for another dog.

Many hugs to you, my friend.

TY, Tami and I am doing okay. It has been five weeks now and I am still missing her. I have her sister with me. I am not planning on getting no more pets because I intend to do allot of traveling and it is hard to find someone to watch my pet while I am away as it is. I look forward to one day traveling and be as free as a bird.

How are you? We missed you here at CD. Glad to see you are back.

Thanks, smilin'. I'm doing okay. If you plan on traveling by car, you could get a bird. I have traveled to Texas with my parrot.

Tami..Did your parrot talk to you when you went to Texas?...If I tried to take my cat with me on a long car trip, she wouldn't be a happy camper or a good companion...She's a homebody and doesn't like to ride in cars...How did your parrot act on your trip?

Smilin...How have you been?...I agree with you. I wouldn't rush out and get another pet if something happened to my cat Gracie...I would try to get by on my own. At least for awhile. Take a few trips, etc.. I hope Gracie sticks around for a few more years. She's a "sweetie pie" and a great companion!..I lost 2 cats last year. Can't handle any more deaths right now...So sorry about Dixie. Hope you're doing a little better now.

Smilin', I'm sorry about your dog. My best friend in high school had a dog named Dixie. I remember when she was taken to the vet for the last time. We used to listen to The Band, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. Not exactly a match, but it helped her cry and begin to move on.

I have lived with and been loved by eight dogs over the years. I miss all of them.
