Thanks Cam for hitting the highlights in my post. It was my intention to simply convey those particular things and they kind of got lost in the story. I hope people who are wondering what to say to grieving parents stumble across this thread. You and the others have left some wise information.

No problem Catdancer! I appreciate so much that you gave us your story and I did want to highlight your unpleasant experience as to what people do say and possibly not knowing that some of those words do hurt.

I do think I should have named the topic different as it looks like it excludes anyone that has lost a child/children and that wasn't my intent at all.
