I've been on a medical leave since Novembet
R 30,3015. I'm a school teacher. The social committee discussed sending me flowers or a gift card. The person in charged forgot about it. Now, three and a half months after they are sending me a gift card. I consider this to be very rude. The committee favors some staff over others and is not consistent about their established guidelines. I'm very hurt and wish they had not sent anything . They did it because one staff member asked them why I have not received anything. I don't want to be rude but I'm planning to return the gift card. I don't want to be forced to write a thank you note to such hypocrites . I do feel bad for the very few people that have sent cards and brought me food.
What should I do?

They are busy teachers with too much to do and probably without a lot of cash to spare. Thank them and enjoy the card. You were thought of!

I agree. If you send the gift card back, you will be alienating people you may need to work with if you return to working. Their response was less than ideal, but that's the way people are. They get busy, they forget, they forget to be considerate. Not good, but don't turn it into a feud. Be the bigger person; be forgiving. Holding a grudge will hurt you more than the people who were negligent. Plus, you will heal faster if you concentrate on positive feelings, not negative.

Why did you post on Grief and Mourning? This is more suited to Non Romantic Relationships or Work and Employment.

To send the card back would be petty, very petty. Do any of these people from your school call you to see how you are or visit you? That's more important than a gift card.

Let it go.

Is your illness terminal and that's why you posted in grief and mourning?

Be thankful you received a gift card. I work for a very large company and only received a get well card during my extended illness.
