My dad died when I was 23 - he was 63 and died suddenly of cardiac arrest. My mom is still alive(I'm 33 now and she is 70). Just don't take any days for granted is the biggest lesson I've taken away. My dad went out jogging and never came back - my mom had a magazine article or something that she was going to show him but he was headed out for his jog so she waited and was going to show it to him when he got back.

I was 53 when my Dad died, and 54 when my Mom died. I never expected I would lose both parents only a year apart. They were both 78 when they died in 03 and 04.

My first/biological mother died (from Hodgkins Disease/cancer) a month before my 6th birthday. My stepmom (who raised me) and my father are still alive and are both 80 years old.

I was 31 when my mom died. She had been very ill with Lewy Body Dementia for eight years, so I feel like I really lost her in my early 20s.

I'm now 48, and my dad is still alive at 93.

I was 47 when mom died in 2015. She had been sick for the last couple of years, and we knew it was coming. It still was a shock. Though she didn't do it on purpose or planned it, she died on my birthday. Needless to say I haven't really celebrated the last 3. I'm now 49, and we just lost my father in-law 10/4/2017. It's been a while coming too as he had Parkinson's. He had a bad fall this time last year, and that seemed to be the beginning of the end. Ironically out of the two sets of parents, these were the 2 that we didn't figure being first. They were 71 and 82 respectively. They were in relative good health most of their lives. When it got bad, it got bad quickly. My husbands mother and my father are still alive. They've steadily had health problems over the years, and figured they would go first. You just never know. His mom is 78, and my dad is 75.

My dad died in 2004 at the age of 57, I was 33. My mom is still alive and she's 72.My mom and I are best friends and reading all of these posts I noticed many were not close to their parents or were estranged. If my mom dies ( and she will someday) I know I'll be devastated!
