I fall asleep watching tv, but it only lasts an hour or. I haven't slept 6 hours in weeks. I'm so exhusted. Anyone know if its normal? I'm scared to take sleeping pills. If I die no one will notice until the smell hits the neighbors.

I miss my mom. I think my heart broke into 100 pieces.

Mariatate, I'm so sorry you have lost your mom.

I understand that the world fell away under your feet. It really, truly sucks. I have been there.

To answer your question, yes, sleeplesness is absolutely normal.

I recommend you make an appointment to see your physician as soon as possible. She/he will understand and will help you.

You're in a place no one wants to occupy, but many have and have survived. You will, too.

Keep putting one foot in front of the other, and keep posting.

This is not at all unusual. I agree that you need to see your physician about this. Getting sleep is an absolutely necessary part of your survival and your being able to work through your grief. I understand not wanting to take sleeping pills. There are also anti-anxiety medications that might help you to relax. But you physician will be able to help with that.

It is also important to eat well and get some exercise. It takes a lot out of you to grieve, and we all need to take care of ourselves during that time, even if we don't feel much energy to do it. I hope things start to get a little better for you. Have patience.

Blessings

It does get a little better. It doesn't go away, it's just not the first thing on your mind every hour and every day. Not sleeping is absolutely normal--at least it was for me. Mom died on October 31st in 2013. Halloween. Thanks mom.

I've watched family members die. A couple lived far away. Doesn't matter--they were gone. I can see their face and hear their voice.

An over the counter sleep aid or melatonin might help a bit. You might get to sleep for a whole two hours.

I'm sorry.

I find the Grasshopper often finds better words to say what I plan to say. I will simply add that if you are not sleeping, it is likely that you are in your head more than in your body, and that you are in need of the type of strenuous exercise or workout that will trigger your body chemistry to demand sleep. If you don't walk for exercise, walk until you feel your body start to complain. The next day, walk even longer. Continue it for a week and you will be more likely to find that your sleep is longer, and your physical body is doing better.

I use this often to help myself sleep. I use my kindle beside my bed. Go to youtube and type in self hypnosis for sleep and healing. Works for me. Just poke through them until you find one you respond to. If and when I wake in the middle of the night I just play it again. After awhile you usually will drift off within a few minutes. No drugs and I believe it is perfectly safe. Sweet dreams. I hope you will just try it and it works for you. So sorry for your loss of your Mom.

I have been taking Ambien for 23 years with no issues. When I had a death in my family I was told to take sleeping pills as not sleeping will make everything worse. If you die then your worries will be over and you will be with your mom. No worries.

Our mothers are so big in our lives and my mom has been gone for 17 yrs but I'd still love to sit and talk to her but I know that's not possible...I look at her pictures all the time and know she loved me and vice versa.

Our mothers would NOT want their children to suffer when they are gone. I truly truly believe this. So take care of YOURSELF and go on with your life. Sleep is so vital for our well being and total health, so please work on that and maybe find a bereavement group to talk to and get their support.

I have a sleep remedy I've used for years and it's in the Alt Med group here at C-D. Again we NEED SLEEP> Good quality sleep...it's nature's healer. Time and Sleep are vital.

Could you explain about the homeless shelter? Are you in danger of losing your housing?

Concerning your legs, I don't know what your medical problems are, but here are two thoughts: You should tell the doctor, when you ask about sleeping, about the pain in your legs. Don't accept just pain pills: get referred to a neurologist, physical therapist, a physical medicine doctor, etc, and start figuring out what is wrong. I also had chronic pain during the time that my husband was ill (legs and back). I started working toward a solution partly before he died, but mostly after, and I am doing much better now. Sometimes it takes a while to find solutions, to diagnose just what is going on, and sometimes it takes some second opinions. Pain syndromes can be complicated. It can be like a puzzle, but you have to hang in there and keep trying. Also, no one gets over chronic pain if they are sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation is part of many pain syndromes. You will need to figure out how to get exercise without aggravating your pain so that your body will want to sleep. That's why you need specialists to help you. I'm not ruling out "alternative medicine" either. Sometimes that can help (sometimes it is a dead end, but then, so are some traditional doctors.)
