While DH and I were at church yesterday, our friend passed away. She had been fighting cancer for several years, and it had gotten to the point that treatments weren't helping, so she stopped them. She was 87. I hadn't seen her for several weeks, but had been sending her cards to let her know we were thinking of her, as she was too weak to receive visitors or talk on the phone. We had just bought one to send to her, but I didn't get it sent before she passed.

She was one of the first people to make us feel welcome when we moved here 3 years ago. We met her in our Sunday School class, and she was always such a joy to be around. She had a wonderful sense of humor and whimsy, always wearing colorful hats and jewelry to make up for her lack of hair that she lost from the chemo. She had a very strong and unwavering faith in God that shone from deep within her. Although we had only known her for a couple of years, we loved her so very much, as did all who were lucky enough to know her. The loss of this wonderful lady will be felt by many.

I feel very fortunate to have had her in my life, and she will always be an example of strength, faith and patience to me. Bless you Dorthy! You will forever be a part of who I am deep in my heart.

WoundedSpirit --
I am so sorry for the loss of your friend, Dorothy. Friends like you have described are so precious. It is wonderful that you were able to let your friend know how much you cared. My husband and I also attend a Sunday School class where a wonderful and welcoming person [our teacher] is, coincidentally, very ill with cancer. It sort of spooked me to read your thread because it is so similar. I am very sorry for your loss. But I suspect, your friend will want you to carry-on and move forward and "pay-it-forward" with a warm welcome to someone new. God bless you!
