A Big Move

Group Created by Wendy N.

Anyone make a big move thousands of miles away and want to share your stories? The good, bad and the ugly. And of course, humorous. I have recently moved from NJ to Las Vegas. Left all my belongings in NJ and am basically "camping" out in my rental. Puts me in a very strange mind-set, but I'm plugging along. Anyone have a great experience with this sort of thing? I'm no spring-chicken, but feeling a bit peckish. Thanks for sharing, Wendy

Moved from Sacramento to Fairbanks AK, not knowing a single person. Left with cash in pocket, started off in Anchorage hostel hopping and ended up in the far north of Fairbanks been here 3 years now. Once again, im looking for another adventure of a big move....I need help. I am brand new to this site, don't really know how to navigate just yet. I need to post a subject that will help me out with various opinions, experience at the most and knowledge about the place. Arcata CA is my next planned stop...I do know what im looking for in my move. All opinions welcome..thank you. and some guidance for the site possibly : )

I am NH born and raised and never thought about moving out of state. My son will be graduating from Lincoln Tech in CT in Automotive. I have a Bachelors in Human Services with a minor in Paralegal studies. I have worked for the State of NH for 12 years and am in the process of getting a divorce. I am looking to start a new chapter in my life. A happier, less stressful one. My concern of course is money. The ability to find a job and affordable housing in a nice small town but close by to be able to have opportunities for work. I have been told that people in No.Carolina are very nice, laid back and life is not as stressful. I would also be moving my 70 year old mother down once I got settled and also want to be able to find a decent place for her to live. The winters take a toll on her and I am sick of cold weather. This is a huge thing for me and I am looking for any input.
My name is Teresa and I thank anyone who is willing to take the time to respond.

    Hello -

I am considering moving from Connecticut to Richmond for work. I currently live in a quiet condo area close to the beach, an assortment of restaurants, 15 minutes to downtown New Haven, vineyards, jogging, hiking, etc. I am looking for a similar type environment, minus the beach of course, that will allow me to enjoy the same activities. I enjoy the city type environment during the day and for entertainment at night, but kinda prefer to have green grass and birds chirping, hence a non-city place to go home to at night. I don't mind a 15 minute commute either. I like to enjoy a fun night out on the town, but my party-girl days are over. In a nutshell, city-girl by day, burbs by night. Though beyond corny, I like to look out my living room window and see trees and grass versus buildings. Also, is there a change in age range in different parts of the city to the outskirts? I am 33, and my friends range from 32-40. I

Thank you for any insight you can provide!!!!

Hello...I'm looking to move from Massachusetts to one of the following states: West Virginia, Tennessee Or Texas. Seeking a safe, quiet, friendly, non city area where I may be able to find reasonably priced housing or rental; employment. Heard folks from WV - very friendly; I've been told
TN - Chattanooga people very friendly (my personal experience)
TX - San Antonio area (New Braunfels) people seemed friendly

Any information or suggestions would be so greatly appreciated. I'm expected to move around March or April, depending on weather. Thank you in advance for your help :-)
