Bro Mike began the service by welcoming all who were here and saying that our Lord and Savior is welcoming each one of us if we want to be a part of His work upon the earth. Even though it seems that Adam’s family has been ungrateful to our Lord, there has been a righteous seed upon the earth at all times. There has been a large number of people who have been rebellious to God’s work all the way along. Even among His special people, the children of Israel, there have been those who were rebellious all the way along, and even after Christ came to the earth there have been many people who have tried to climb up some other way than by Christ Jesus, our Lord. But this Bible makes it very clear that there is no other way than through Him. And we must lay down our will and our way and that’s been the way it has been all the way along right up until now. . But He has made it clear that He would not bring anything upon the righteous but what there has been a way tor them to escape if they wanted to know it. Some have been willing to lay down their lives for the Lord’s sake, but some others have turned back and blasphemed and lost. But we think of a young man like Stephen who had the Spirit of the Holy Ghost dwelling richly within him. And he was doing the will of God in his day, and even in our day, when conditions arise among the Lord’s people that need to be dealt with, He will give us a way to handle these situations. if we bring it to the attention of the right and proper source. The Lord was able to set up a group of men to handle that condition, Stephen being one of them. And in the course of his work, Stephen was brought before a council of the Jews and he poured out a beautiful testimony before them that is recorded in the book of Acts. He let the Spirit of the Lord direct his words in front of this council who had much hatred toward him and toward the work of the Lord. And here we sit in a comfortable church and if we do not let the Spirit of the Lord direct us in our day, the testimony of Stephen will be a great witness against us. Stephen spoke plainly and boldly to that council. He told them about all the things that God had done for His people and of what God did toward those who did not keep His commandments, how that they had lost out. But Stephen got down to the last part of his testimony and he told them, “You are a stiff-necked group of people. You have persecuted and slain thosewhich shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers.” And what did they do? They were infuriated and they gnashed upon him with their teeth and they picked up stones and stoned him to death. But as they stoned him, he said “I can see Jesus Christ standing at the right hand of God,” and his next words were asking the Lord to forgive those who were stoning him. And that should be our prayer today that the Lord would forgive all of those who do not understand the work of the Lord today.
And what are the words of the truth doing to me in our day? Are they infuriating me or are they bringing me to my senses, that I need to let that Spirit of the Lord direct me in what ever I do. And if I do not accept the words of God and His commandments in our day, I am no different from those people who put Stephen to death. They were letting Satan deceive them into thinking they could stone Stephen and put the work of the Lord off of the earth. But it could not be stopped. I believe it was Gamaliel that told some of the Jews that if this work was of God they could not stop it, and they would not be happy fighting against it.
And I know that the Word of the Lord is being preached to us today, simple, plain and free. To accept it is peace and joy and everlasting life. To reject it is to be constantly looking for something you can never find, true peace and happiness. You accept the Lord and receive that spirit of the Holy Ghost [which peter said in Acts 5:32 that God gives to those who obey Him.] That is the only thing that can bring peace, peace, blessed peace. Do we understand what the Lord is offering to us. He has a spirit to offer us, not the spirit we were born with. When He gives us that spirit of the Holy Ghost, we become a new man If we want to keep that blessed peace, we don’t want to take that Spirit to places where it will be exposed to the filthiness of Satan. So we are constantly warned, “Be careful where you go, be careful what you say, be careful how you dress, all of these things have something to do with that Spirit that is within you. Do you want to keep it clean? Or do you want to take it to places where it will be exposed to things that would put it back like it was before. Now when we get our clothes dirty, sometimes we can get them cleaned back up, but sometimes we can’t get those stains out and we have to throw them away. And that’s exactly what can happen to us spiritually. If we get too much stain on that spiritual part then we have no more repentance for sin. So it’s a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God. But He’s there for us all. When we see that we’ve made a mistake, if we have done it ignorantly, we can take that mistake to Him quickly and repent of those things. And let Him use that fire and burn it up while we are still here in the land of the living. Suffer the loss here now in this life. And be able to get the gain in that final Judgment Day. If we have truly repented and have received the Spirit of Jesus Christ that we can be saved, we do not have a constant fear that we will be lost.. As long as I walk worthy of His Spirit; as long as I keep His commandments and do the things that He says for me to do, and keep that garment from being spotted, I have nothing to be worried about. And I know that He has promised, as we said earlier, that He would not allow Satan to tempt us but that He would make a way for us to escape. He said He did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, not the kind of power that man looks for to be over other people, but a spirit of power over Satan. That’s the power we should be seeking for. And along with that power, the spirit of love that we will be willing to do whatever our Lord asks us to do, that we will have a perfect love for Him and His Father, to put that foremost above all things. And along with that He will give us a sound mind, that you will be able to discern right from wrong, a mind that will make you able to understand the truths of God. The thing that we should be seeking is the kingdom of God, being ready to lay down this natural life to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. I know that He came here for the sins of the entire world, and I know that God did not leave one person out of that. Now does that mean that everybody on the top side of the earth are elect? Not at all. God knows that if the right circumstances are brought about, a person will either repent or will not repent. Let’s remember that this Bible that we have before us is the inspired word of God, and I believe we can get a pretty full understanding by reading those words, but I need to be careful of what man might say about certain parts of this book. I know that God has given revelations about certain things that are in this book, but if man brings certain things to you, or if I give it to you, we’d better take it to the Lord and let Him be the one that confirms that that is the truth. It looks like people in this country are trying to get farther and farther away from the teachings of this book. Will we want to get closer to understanding what the Lord will have us to do in our day, or will we be chasing and whoring after things of this world instead of seeking after the kingdom of God and letting Him give us the other things that we need. Let us all be begging and pleading for the proper understanding of His work today and what we need to do to help spread His word, to help others understand the importance of keeping His words on this earth and letting that Spirit dwell richly within us.
Text was from Matt. 9:36 through the 10th chapter.
Some highlights:
Chapter 10: [1] And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. [Now that included Judas Iscariot. He was given power to cast out devils and to heal all manner of diseases. So how do we justify people saying that once you receive that Spirit you are saved and it does not matter what you might do, you are still saved. Judas had that Spirit and that power, but if we want to go back into that house we came out of, we can crucify Him again and go back into that house. Jesus said in another place that seven other spirits would come into him, worse than he had before. If we allow Satan to come back into us, there is no more peace within us.]
[22
] And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.[IF we endure faithfully whatever comes upon us to the end of this natural life we SHALL be saved,]
[32
] Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. [33] But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. [Where do we want to live in eternity, with those who have the Spirit of God, or with all the murderers, the adulterers, and thieves? Jesus said that many would seek to enter in, but few would find it.]
[37
] He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. [38] And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. [39] He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. [Jesus says that if we are not allowing the Spirit of God to direct the things we allow in our homes, we are not worthy of Him. And if we are not worthy of that Spirit, we will not receive it; we won’t retain it. And if we do not take up whatever the Lord gives to us, we are not worthy of Him.]
[40
] He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. [41] He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. [42] And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
[We need to receive the Word of God, wherever it comes from, and let the Lord confirm it within you. If His Spirit is dwelling within you, you will in no wise lose your reward. Bro. Mike told us about the words of Jesus, when His followers asked Him what they did to be able to enter into eternal life, He said
, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me (Matt. 25:40). “They were doing what the Spirit was directing them to do It’s laid out very plain to us, either you accept Him or you don’t accept Him, you either confess Him or you don’t confess Him. You either spend eternity in heaven, or you spend it in hell. The choice is ours. We have a great opportunity today – to do His will, to clean up, and to get our house in order, so that when He comes we can rise to meet Him in the air and to ever be with Him, our Lord and Savior.”
