Hello everybody, guess this isn't an active area. I am new to amature radio and was hoping to chat about some practicalities of setting up my first station.

Well, dang, not much activity here.
I went to the Glacier-Waterton Hamfest last year, and won the grand prize, a Yaesu FT-857D! VERY nice radio.
I still have the 101ZD, thinking about getting it refurbished and aligned, for use as the core base station radio.
    We'll see...

I am an Extra Class Ham and originally was licensed as a General in 1987. I own an Icom 735 and a Kenwood TS-450S. I also have a two meter Yaseau. My HF antenna back in CA is a ladderline-fed dipole....each leg is 125 in length and is up at a heighth of 22 feet.....I know, it should be higher. I live in a high-density forest dominated by Doug fir and hardwoods. It is difficult to get the wire clear of the trees.

Darn. The FT301D turned out to be inoperative. So, I now have a Yaesu FT-101ZD, feeding to a MFJ deluxe VersatunerII, into a modified CB ground plane.
    It works.
    For 2 meter/70cm use I have a Yaesu FT-7800R feeding a dual band J-pole.

Finally got it all done. KJ7POE, checking in.
Got a Yaesu FT-301D, now need to build or buy an antenna, and I will be on the air.
Thinking about building an inverted V dipole. MUCH cheaper than the 6-band Hustler I have been looking at!

New operator, General Class. I should have a call sign soon.
Then I need to get more/better radios, and antennas. Right now I have a President HR2510, and that is it!
