Thanks, I'll copy that so I have it handy once I switch to my new computer. I can't believe 2 complete set ups take up so much room!

Lola has turned into an escape artist. She's broken one rope, managed to untie a knot under her chin, broken a snap, and broken a halter. It's not that she really wants to get away, she's just sure that the one bite of grass she can't quite reach is better than all the bites she can get. Now she has a halter that ought to hold a bulldozer, ditto the rope, and a bigger stainless steel snap. If she gets out of that, I'll have to go out and lead her around, silly horse. Or silly owner, I'm not sure which anymore! At least she's always happy to come up to me, though it's a bit difficult trying to lead a horse with a halter that doesn't meet anywhere on the underside.

Hi Katie, it's not the DSL, it's the computer itself - old, pitiful, and working way beyond it's capacity. Lola, bless her heart, managed to get loose from the tie-outs a couple of times. Once she broke tha snap, once she just untied the rope under her chin. No idea how, I do know how to tie knots that stay tied after so many years on boats! So there I was having a mini-heart attack, watching her amble across the yard! I went outside and called her, and she came right up to me. I guess spoiling them can be a good thing, sometimes. She was a bit nervous about not having either a rope or a fence to mark a boundary for her.

Saddleman, I meant to say earlier I looked at your site. You have some really nice things. If I had to pay for them, though, I'd be riding bareback for sure! It never occured to me that a horse and a mule wouldn't use the same saddles, but I guess they are somewhat different in ways other than the ears. I've always heard that mules were smarter than horses, but they could also be meaner, so I never paid much attention to them. All I ever saw them used for back in MO when I was a kid was pulling a plow or wagon, but I do know some of the people where I live now keep riding mules and breed them on a small scale.

HAHAHAHA Yes its IS confusing!! But keep in mind size doent matter if you are not showing or the horse/pony is not too small or big for you and yours plans.
Yes DSL makes loading pic easier! Glad to help!!

Thanks! One of these days I'll have to figure out the posting photo thing. Once I get my DSL connected to the new computer, I guess.

I did a bit of research on horse and pony breeds and sizes last night, and there is a lot of overlap. It doesn't seem like there's a lower limit to horses, but ponies, some of them, can go up to 15 hands. And there are Morgans small enough to be shown in pony classes, though mostly they aren't, they are shown as horses. Confusing, to say the least. But after I started looking, I sort of ended up wanting one of each!

I finally measured her, she's 14.2, as near as I can tell. I think ponies are like anything else, they react to how they are treated, and those pony ride ponies sure had to put up with a lot through the season. My cousins also had a pinto gelding, much larger, closer to 16 hands as I recall. He was great with all us kids, we taught him all kinds of tricks - the first one being to kneel so we could get on him! But he defniitely didn't like adults, no way. We never rode him with a saddle or bridle, just a halter with a rope for a single rein and bareback, so that might have had something to do with it.

Ponies from what i understand are nasty. Tho I owed a gelding that was soooo sweet! And boarded my friends pony mare that was as great!! Most horses [except race when I work on other folks horse farms] were mostly mix breeds. Never meet a really mean or nasty horse or pony tho do to there size I have been stepped on squessed nipped & kicked!! But even if the sire was not a ideal temperment the foals more or less go by moms temper. So you might end up with a nice foal. & time will tell about grown size. Remember Justin Morgans horse mom was large & he was little guy that had great temper & endurance. And I dont think they had a clue to his sire!
