I got into bird watching sort of slowly like many people I think. First one bird feeder, then a couple more. A bird bath. Googling info about bird houses. Humming bird feeders. Then a cheap pair of binoculars and a bird identification book. Then I got a dog that I felt needed off leash exercise (he had a good recall and was a nice dog) so I started looking for public areas like wildlife management areas etc. So I walked the dog. Well what the heck, I started taking along the bird id book and the binoculars. Next thing you know I had a small scope and was driving me and the dog all over the place, had joined the Audubon society and was on several bird lists. The last few years I haven't been doing it much, the dog got cancer, and I've moved to a lesser area bird wise. But its a great hobby in part because you can do it at any level you like.

Hello everyone! I'm from the midwest as well, buildordie. (Thanks for the reminder) I never planned to call myself a birdwatcher, but it seems that everywhere I travel or spend time I look for birds. There's a bike path behind my house with some swamps and ponds along it; lots of different species come through on their way north or south. Some of them I can identify- many I can't. I'll post some pics if I can find them in my computer.
It would be great if this group gets busier...my guy doesn't appreciate my 'bird reports' as some of you might!

I am from the midwest and and enjoy bird watching. Remember if you feed birds in the summer make sure you feed them all winter too when they really need it!.

Hello! I'm in the Dallas area and I love birds. Unfortunately, our new house doesn't afford us the abundance of wild birds that our old one did. I'm going to post a pic I took of a hummingbird last year. I'd love to see more pictures on here!

Well....I thought I was going to post a pic but apparently I can't figure out how??

    Jodyrose,
Just moved to a new location about a year ago. We put up a bluebird house and had two nestings this year. First time we got 3 birds that fledged and 2nd nest was abandoned for some reason. More than likely some pressure from other birds. Learning a lot about the bluebirds. They are quite special
