Default Guns = awesome

I am so sad. I haven't been shooting in a year because of no money for bullets. I love guns and it sucks that ammo is so freakin expensive.

I used to go shooting at least once or twice a week, now NEVER! DAMN!

I am unemployed so obviously this was one of the first things I had to quit for time being, but I am waiting for the day to start going again!

I wanted to post a thread so I could hear how much other people love guns! Stupid I know, but I am desperate to talk to other people who appreciate as much as I do. Write whatever you want. Would love to hear what you have and what your favorite is to shoot. Also any good stories!

Nothing like the smell of gun powder in the morning. HA HA!

Do you have a .22 rimfire? I mean to squeeze in a box of 50 into a week's budget is not that big a deal.

Learn to handload, and cast your own bullets - you can do a lot of shooting for cheap, making the bullets, lubing them, and loading into ammo is entertaining as well as the shooting.

Shotshells can be handloaded too, although the savings are not as radical as centerfire ammo.

I don't get out to shoot as much as I should.

Also try getting ammo at gunshows, far cheaper than retail outlets...

Hey thanks for advice everyone!
I have a .45 and that is why my ammo is so expensive. Have bought online before and at gunshows, but like I said because of my job situation, it is kinda out of the question right now.
Glad to hear prices are dropping though because I haven't looked in awhile.

I recently went to my local range with a buddy, I had a bunch of older ammo to get rid of so I didn't spend a whole lot, he bought a couple boxes of cheap stuff @ almost $30 a box, I pay that much for my carry ammo (.380 and .40 cor-bon DPX), so buy online if you can. We also rented an FN SCAR, $30 for that and almost $30 for a box of ammo.

If you have a 1911 type .45 ACP, there are .22 conversion units available, a 2nd slide, barrel, magazine, and some springs.

With the .45, you can save some coin by handloading, lots of good cast bullets available at gun shows, local gun stores, etc.

The Lee turret press is fairly fast, cheap enough, and if you decide to get a Dillon or etc. later the Lee is good for small lots of ammo and/or other calibers.

The Dillon "Square Deal" is just that, it's a really good loader, and you can easily load several hundred rounds per hour.

But for the price you are going to pay for a conversion, you could get a Ruger 22/45 for another $50 - $75.

Here they are for $239...
Ruger 22/45* Pistol (http://www.ozarkguns.com/Ruger%20Pistol/Ruger%202006/22_45.htm - broken link)

Unless you can find a used conversion kit for cheap....

But, you buy the 22/45 and you have 2 guns...

Or a .22 rifle for less...
