Anybody else out there going after black bears this fall?
I hunt them in northern NH & the season openned on the first. Went up to camp Friday to set a bait & I'm headed back Wed or Thursday to see what comes in. If nothing shows I'll probably walk up the mountain a little & see if I see anything. I know theyre around but they arent so easy for me to find.
Bait worked year before last for me so I'm giving it another shot.

I bear hunt, but in Montana it is fair chase only, no baits or scents or electronic calls. Can make it a little difficult to connect with a good bear, but there are a lot of them out there. I have seen 3 in the past couple of weeks.
Lot depends on if the berry crop holds out until the rifle season opens on the 15th.
Archery season opened this weekend, but I don't go looking for bear on purpose just armed with a stick and string. Elk OK, but not something that bites back

In NH you probably have mast crops that might be worth watching. The water sources here can be a ways between so watching the creeks has worked for me in the past.

I was thinking about a late season bear hunt here in California in November before they start to den up. No bait here. It also depends on the count. Season closes when they hit a certain count.

Great looking hound. I just love those floppy ears.

What you mean you don't run with him?

Thank you!!

I don't hunt at all.

I do like to do things with Rip like competitions, going to trainers and spoiling him rotten.

Its interesting how bear hunting is a different deal in different states. In PA we can't bait or run hounds, so its mostly drivers and posters in and around swamps and on remote hilltops. We grow some big ones, especially in the NE part of the state.

Yeah that part of the country is swarming with them. I will probably try near Jackson Valley Reservoir first. Up on top along the Pacific Crest Trail I have seen five in the last three years.
