NRA-ILA :: U.S. House of Representatives Adopts Right-to-Carry Reciprocity
Some seriously scary ammendments were attempted to be added on to this bill. It's stuff like this that scares me whenever the government try to pass a bill to "help us":
"Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee’s (D-Texas) amendment to establish a national database of permit holders (defeated 284-139);
Rep. Jackson Lee’s amendment to require permit holders to notify law enforcement officials in other states of their intention to carry a firearm in those states (defeated 299-123)"

Since the permits would be a definite part of interstate commerce, BATF or Homeland Security can just issue regulations to that effect. They can also have a "no carry" list just as they have a "no fly" list. They could also simply decide that people who carry guns are potential terrorists. Congress is not going to repeal the Patriot Act, the law that suspends a big chunk of the Constitution.

I became a Life Member of the NRA fifty years ago but if I were starting out today it would be Gun Owners of America only for a national organization. They didn't support the Instant Check and they never would have fired Neal Knox. Do you really believe that the government purges its system of the names of gun buyers?

Remember when so many cars and trucks had progun bumper stickers? Why have they disappeared? Raw, naked fear, anyone?

Proposals like that make me very scared. What are they thinking?

(But then again, I have been fingerprinted so many times, by both state and Federal agencies, that they sort of already know who I am) (not for bad reasons, but for firearms licensing).

The last time I was printed for CCW, I was still carrying a TS with the military. The Sheriff, I knew him, said, "You seem to have been through this before...." I just smiled and said, "Yeah, seems familiar." Being in a "Right to Carry state" he is not allowed to ask why I want it, so I messed with him a bit. He said, "So, what are you doing these days?" I said, "Selling weapons to foreign nations." He hesitated, but finished printing me. 6 weeks later I got my permit renewed.
