I believe JustReady or JustRight make a M4 chambered in 9mm, .40 cal and .45 ACP, not sure which I found google images of both. These rifles take all of the standard AR accessories and Glock magazines chambered in that calibur.

New these rifles start around $600 or they did about a year ago.

So if you are interested you could pick up high-capacity Glock mags, the M4 and a Glock also chambered in the .40 cal; that way you only need the one ammo for both your pistol and rifle.

My HiPoint 40 cal. carbine is fun to shoot and quite accurate. No problems with it and was a great pric whan I boght it. I don't think I threw my money away with it.

Usually some certain snobbery involved when HP is mentioned

A note in passing... a carbine is a long gun with a short barrel for maneuverability in close-quarters combat. As such they do not need the power or range of a full rifle cartridge, and conventional pistol rounds are sufficient. Early adopters, such as the US Cavalry quickly discovered the tactical advantages of carrying a carbine and a pistol which used the same cartridge. That's why so many carbines have been manufactured to use "pistol" rounds over the years.

In this case it was a little different. The OP already had the ammo, wanted a carbine to use it with.

I had a Kel Tec Sub2000 chambered in .40 S&W and it was fun to shoot, and pretty accurate. I sold it for around $350, so pretty inexpensive.

I can't understand pistol ammo in a long gun in these times.... The only place that idea works for me is in .62 cal and black powder. BUT the load changes in the hand gun to the long gun, only the round ball remains the same.

As close as i would personally be interested is in .44mag maybe... A single action mated to a lever gun might work for me just maybe.... i won't ever have desire and money enough to buy..

I won't condemn others for it though

A long gun gives higher velocity and better accuracy than a hand gun, and using pistol mag gives greater versatility in close quarters fighting with a single ammo supply. That's always been the manifesto of carbines.

Working it the other way around, building pistols around rifle ammo has had limited success, and typically compromises close range work capabilities.

Considering the possible uses in the higher probability scenarios, defending one's home against intruders up close and personal seems a far likelier situation to have to deal with than picking them off at a great distance.
