Hey there! I have a Saiga 7.62x39 semi-automatic rifle that I bought new in 2009. I have never used it. It has been in its box pretty much the entire time I've had it. I would like to get rid of it, but I am not certain what I should sell it for since I am really not familiar at all with guns. So for the gun owners here, any suggestions? Here is a picture of one like it:

I also have 500 rounds of ammo for it that I would like to sell. Any advice on how much I should sell the ammo for?

I see ammo going for about a buck a round, and the rifle I would say you could get around 750 to 900 for the rifle. Put it up for sale on Armslist and see what response you get. Don't take it to a dealer they will rip you off. If you are worried you can tell any potential buyer that you have to meet at a place that will do private sale transfers. There are many that will do them for 20 to 50 bucks and you know its out of your hands.

Thank you for the response, buddy. I don't know crap about guns, but I do know that the market is hot right now and I want to drop this rifle while I can.

Hit the classifieds on the different gun forums as well to check prices. Calguns, 24hourcampfire, Snipershide, AR15 are some of the biggies. Gunbroker is good for prices as well.

Also make sure you follow the local and state regs about selling your firearm.

Hurryup because prices are starting to cool.

Here is the skinny, I don't think there will be a semi auto ban. But the next month will be a lot of hooplaphobia and many people will pay the premium. So my point is sell it in the next month and you will get as much as you can. If you wait and by some crazy thing there is a ban you won't be able to sell it if some of the proposed bills pass. If your gun had all the pistol grips and nomenclature of the original AK I think you could get a bit more. But you still have an AK variant. Don't try to get the very top dollar or you will have to wait for the right buyer. Sell a bit under what they are going for on Armslist and you will move it. If you use paypal make sure you say car parts of they will freeze your account. Be careful of any face to face deal as there is a lot of scams going on and you don't want to meet in back of wal mart and take a club to the head. I would wait to see if someone from out of state wants it and if so you can ship to a FFL if the dealer they use will ship one to you. To dot all your i you can take it to a dealer and have them ship it but remember everyone wants a cut. 20 to 50 plus shipping for a dealer to take an FFL and do the transfer to another dealer.

I agree, I think the gun frenzy is cooling, Mags are still hot though and impossible to find.

I looked up your gun on Online Firearm Values Guide - Free FFL Search - My Gun Values.com and the barrel length, magazine capacity, and other features can make the difference in the price. Your best bet would probably be to get a free account and see if they have exactly the value you're looking for. If they do, it's $1.99 to get it. Then I'd print out the value you get from the site so that you have some leverage with buyers. A private sale will almost always bring in more money than selling to a dealer. Best of luck with your sale!

That rifle you have is very desirable for converting into an AK-47 platform (semi-auto, not full auto). When I bought mine I paid around $250 just for the rifle. After I converted it I sold it for around $800 a few years ago. I'd imagine right now the unconverted Saiga could bring close to $1000 very easily. I wish I had never sold that rifle, oh well...it was a very fun gun to shoot.

I recall seeing boxes of new saigas a few years back at some of the gunshows
I would pick one up to look it over briefly before passing up on the purchase
Now I only wish I had bought one or two as they werent that expensive... like around $200 if I recall correctly
But I can say that for lots of guns Ive considered but finally passed up on in the past

Saw an SKS go for $850.00 and an AK go for $950.00 today at an auction. That was with 40 rounds of ammo for each.
