I had one ADL I bought in Pinedale Wy in 1981. It was my first deer rifle. I sold it because I am left handed and I bought a Ruger Left 77 3006. Great gun. I sent my serial number in when the settlement came through and got the 35 bucks back due to the safety debacle. If you don't know there has been a lot of hype over the safety not working properly and causing deaths. I think I paid 369 for it back then at Coast to Coast. It as a good gun and I took my first deer and the 13 point on my wall with it. I just had a hard time with a right handed bolt and being left handed. The LH works better for me and its not I like the Ruger over the Rem, its that Walmart had it and there was a pencil line on it and I said it looked like a cracked stock and they sold it to me for 250, that and that LH models can sit there for a long time. The Rem was a very good gun.

My oldest son saved his lawn mowing money to buy (through me) a Remington 700 BDL in .30-06. IIRC, he paid about $270 for it.
He still loves that sweet rifle and even now it looks NIB even though he's hunted Whitetail in the Hill Country and feral hogs out of Uvalde many times with it over the last 30 years.

If I remember right the BDS had the black trim and mag floor that dumps and a few other bells and whistles the ADL was the more basic gun. My gun had a finish on it you could dive into. It was almost too nice to take out.

I picked up a BDL in .30-06 in the summer of 2012 when I moved from California to Virginia. I traded a Llama 1911 .45 for a Leupold scope and was ready to take on a new hobby. Ironically it wasn't until after I spent the money and made the trade for the glass that I started to understand Virginia hunting laws, and how they vary by county. In some counties, rifle hunting is against the law. I missed deer season entirely in 2012 due to engaging in a house hunt. But this past year I went out with my 870 and dropped a nice 175-180lb white tale 7 pointer with a nice doe to sweeten the deal.
