Saw it on a trail in SE Idaho last week. Didn't think to put my hand or foot beside it for size-perspective at the time. About the size of my hand (maybe a little shorter and wider). Can anyone tell me what this is?

I'm no expert, in fact I have no specific knowledge or experience at all on the subject, but my first impression is that it looks like a bear track.

Again, I don't know what I'm talking about, so don't listen to me.

Without anything to judge size, it is difficult to tell.

Though, from what you say about size, Bear front paw would be a good guess.
It appears that it was moving rather quickly.

Like everyone says, it's hard to tell without more reference. My wild guess would be badger; it looks small in the pick.

It looks like a deer jumped from that spot.
