I don't know about you guys but I've been banging my head against the wall this week trying to get any decent quantities of ammo.
The funny thing is that people in the past always said to avoid buying guns in oddball calibers like .357 SIG because you'd have a hard time getting ammo. Yet there is plenty of ammo in those oddball calibers around. It's the standard stuff like 9mm that is impossible to find.
Anyone else having the same problems? Or were you guys smart enough to start stocking years ago?
I try to buy from mom and pop shops as much as possible. Their ammo is usually more expensive, but I will spend some extra bucks from time to time to help them stay open. Lately these places are the only ones that have and any .22lr ammo. Their prices haven't increased...or if so not by much....and I am still finding ammo there.
SGammo is a place to check. Click the button for them to notify you when some comes in, and they will do it. You will need to make sure you get your emails when they come in, and be prepared to order in the middle of the night sometimes if you want to beat others to the punch.
I was in the gun shop last week and took a look at ammo. I have plenty stocked up, but with everybody on here talking about it, I thought I would check. I have .22, 9mm, .40 cal, and .45 that I regularly shoot and those calibers were readily available. Because of what has been going on, there were limits on some ammo, i.e. 2 boxes per customer, per visit. One brick, per customer, per visit. So if you wanted to buy a brick of .22, go out and put it in your truck and then go back in and get another one, the guy said that was fine, he was just trying to make sure that ammo was available for all people, he didn't want somebody coming in and emptying him out of ammo.
Just got in 4k rounds of 5.56 yesterday that I'd ordered back in mid-December....brown truck due to deliver buncha bullets - 5k rounds of 230 gr LRN, plus 3k rounds of 230 gr FMJ, an' 1k of 230 JHP tomorrow....got the Dillon set up, cases in feeder an' primers in tubes, all ready to load!
I went to one of the local gun stores in Richmond on Saturday, I could find ammo for 38/357, 44 magnum, 45 ACP for $40 a box of fifty ; some 9mm.
No 22 long rifle, no 223 But I did get large rifle primers and power, I already got last week the dyes for a .270 and .308 and got some Hornady bullets, ready to start re-loading rifle rounds. I have been reloading most pistol rounds for about a year now .
I have reloading dyes for the .223 but they are on back order and will take about another 4 weeks to come in
Wal marts all out here in SWF. Only some odd calibers or expensive rounds. Found 22lr at one mom and pop store. They wanted 30 bucks for a brick that should cost 14 at wal mart. I will get some 22lr when things calm down. Went to a car swap meet and there were a few guns, Ruger mini14 wanted 1500 LMAO and an SKS wanted 600 almost hit the floor and 45 for some old AK mags worth maybe 10 each. The crazy continues. Problem is that there are back orders now, its not just that the buying frenzy has to stop. Now after that stops the back orders have to be filled and then stock replaced. I bet its not till mid summer before it all gets back to normal.
I only own four calibers .308, .45acp, 12 gauge and .22
I stocked up years ago and am not concerned about ammo shortages. Some of the deals I have taken advantage of only make me want to kick myself for not spending more. .308 british surplus for 160/thousand is one of the deals I wish I had doubled my order.
Here in my part of the Houston area, there is no 9mm or 22lr to be found. There are only a couple of boxes of .40 and .45 ACP at any given time. The major sporting goods chain around here (Academy) keeps the more common cartridges behind the customer service counter and they only allow one box of each ammo at a time. I was there on Friday and all they had back there was a couple of boxes of .45 ACP in both FMJ and hollow as well as a few boxes of 5.56.
I've pretty much kept a decent stock up , only two I haven't really kept up where .22lr and 12 guage figuring those never run dry. Can't believe that .22lr is now hard to find.
Sort of wish I had more 5.56/.223 though, never can have too much of that.
