Well...2014 is done for most hunting that plates up vittles. Didn't get out this year. (Sigh) the docs took up my year seeing that I CAN hunt, in the future. My son and I have a Spring hog hunt in N CA on tap. Archery. As of now, I'm working to be in shape and ready for it. Lot of hard work and pain involved. Worth it though. I feel myself getting stronger every day. I have more and more confidence in my skills as well. Im going to be using a traditional longbow. 60#, with arrows I have crafted myself, for this hunt.

I have begun a regimine of daily practice, that requires I pack in to my shooting site, which I have set up down the trail along the river behind my house. One mile there , one back, and a minimum of an hours shooting, as my start. My leg has hit a plateau, as to how strong it will be, so I'm working on bracing and lacing it to cope. Being disabled will NOT keep me from challenges. Yep....hunt smarter...not harder.

It has been a Christmas tradition for my son and I to get a half dozen rabbits, however, we got about 14 inches of snow, followed by subzero temps. I have rabbit in the freezer and it will have to do for now. I can't get around in the snow, that well anymore. I am permitted to hunt and shoot from my vehicle, and that helps, but just not worth the trouble. We have some 20 weather coming up next week so will get some rabbits then.

Due to health, I was not able to get any elk this year. That hurts because I haven't had to buy any beef in years. This year I'll have to start. buying beef again. For years, I've kept the freezer full of elk, deer, antelope, rabbits, mountain lion, and trout.

Rabbits are best when its been good and cold. Hasn't been cold enough round here to make me look at bunny. To many bugs on them. This next year its time to get back out for venison. Elk is a tough draw here in NV with our lottery system. Archery and black powder aren't to bad to draw, but I really hate the early season. Its WAY to warm , for my likings anyway, during the months those seasons run. But, beggars can't be choosers.

Can't really afford an out of state hunt, up North round your country. I'd like too, but need a windfall to pull it off. My son has this notion about wanting to go back to Hawaii and do a Hawaiian style pig hunt. Lol, he certainly has a sense of adventure. He wants to do the Tarzan, drop out of a tree onto the critters back, with a big knife or a spear. They do that kind of stuff a lot out there. We met a guy named Titus Kinemake, when we were on Kauai, who does this kind of hunting, and my sons dream hunt is to do this. Maybe 20 years ago I'd have given it a whirl, a bow is about as primitive as I want to go now. But, if I can ever afford the trip, I'd take him to try it. I have no doubt the kid could pull it off.

Who knows, lives full of surprises. It could happen.

Love to get some bunnies and squirrels. I plan on spending January doing that after deer season. We don't seem to have a lot of rabbits around here, though.

Yep...you guys are in deep freeze. My Mom and her husband live way North of me, up round Elko, and they have had a lot of winter we haven't seen in the Carson area. It been banana belt here for a few years. I see lots of cottontail and grey squirrel when I hike the river behind my house, heading down to my little bow range I have set up. Thought about launching an arrow once or twice and doing some fried rabbit, but, like I said..to warm. So , I've been at a cease fire . They're all so tame now I couldn't bring myself to shoot them anyway. That's not hunting...would be like murdering a friend now. Lmao.

There's a small herd of resident deer as well. They hang out a lot in the state park I live next to. There's a nice buck with them. He's a 4x5, kinda different, and his spread is impressive. They're all pretty tame as well. A guy can learn a lot from just watching them though.

I've got one more doe tag, and I get a bonus doe on that. So...I'm trying to get 2 more by Jan 15. They seem to have just disappeared the last few days. We got down below zero last night and I think they're holding up somewhere trying to keep warm. Hopefully they come back out next week.
