Going duck and goose hunting this weekend. Driving to Glasgow, MT to meet up with friends. 6.5 hr drive but well worth it.

Last bird hunt of the season is done. Geese didn't start flying until 10:00am Saturday, by 11:30a.m. the 5 of us limited out with 25 birds. Most of the geese were really, really large birds.. They decoyed easily with blowing snow and −25 windchill temps.

Was going to hunt again on Sunday but a big storm was moving in, so I left Glasgow for Helena at 7:30am and didn't get home until 3:00pm. 175 miles of my drive was in blowing snow and ice/snow packed roads. Very slow going.

I still have until 01/31 to bag a doe in my district, but I think my freezer is full enough- I'm calling this season over.

Having 'fresh' elk back strap for supper. 3 year old cow was shot this morning and I was cutting her up starting about 3. Going to be a long evening, I do all my own processing. Took a break, just to relieve back strain and to cook up a couple 8 oz, one inch thick slices of back strap. It was a toss up between fresh back strap, or liver and heart. Liver and heart will be tomorrow night. Daughter is setting everything aside so she can come out for liver.

I took my last deer of the year late last week-- a little spike buck. Thought he was a doe when I shot him, the antlers were that small. He counted as an antlerless (less than 6" long). The backstraps were wonderful. 2nd deer in a row that I shot the heart, though...so I didn't get to eat the heart. Grrr.......

I just traded a crossbow I had for a .22 auto, so I'm heading out to the woods the next few weeks to do some fluffy-tailed tree rat hunting. I'll also take a rabbit if I see one.

I actually went into a Walmart this morning and was told "Yes...we do have .22 lr". I almost fainted. I bought the 3 box max of 225 rounds each.

.22 lr is coming back. I bought a bunch and it's sitting in the locker. I want to be shooting it but this time of year is meh. No hunting, football is almost over, fishing is slow. May as well go into the office

I'm trying to go shoot squirrels...and it's amazing how I walk into the woods, and don't see a single one. I even sat in the tree stand that I sat in while deer hunting. I would routinely see 10 squirrels running laps around me...but I didn't see a single tree rat.

Late season I would sit still and wait until they come out to find their hidden cache of food(s). When one starts hitting it, others become opportunistic and come out. Just wait and you'll see a number of them. Usually saw them on bluebird days with no wind.
