What do you like? There are quite a few models for sale and quite a few home made brews. Be gentle on us suckers that live in States that require them.

It is a mag release required in Commifornia that must be depressed by a hard pointed object to release the mag. Just one of our many stupid laws passed by politicians who know nothing about guns.

In California, (and maybe a few other states like MA or CT), on AR style rifles, a "tool" must be used to remove the magazine from a gun. The most common and handy "tool" turns out to be the bullet point of a cartridge, hence the colloquial name.

Yup. And the AK style can be even more bizarre, hence my query as to what everyone likes.

Sounds like the real tools are those who make such stupid laws.

Politicians, particularly the anti-gun kind, are the worst tools of all.

There are a lot of things about California that I think are great (including some terrific people, depending where you are), but sometimes it seems more like a foreign country than an American state.

To clarify further, semi-auto firearms with removable magazines and only one other evil feature (pistol grip, adjustable stock, flash suppressor, etc. ) are considered assault weapons in California. They are severely restricted and may be completely illegal. In order to not be considered removable, the magazine must require the use of something other than your hand/fingers to remove it (i.e., a "tool"). The original intent was to require something like a screwdriver to remove a bolt. But a tiny recessed button that releases the magazine when pressed by a pointy metal object meets the letter of the law, and a bullet can be considered a "tool".

So an AR with a bullet button mag release is legally allowed to have all the evil features you want.

Thanks for explaining it. You are correct, it is stupid. Does it surprise me about California, no.
