I have owned several Savage 24's (5 to be exact). Two of them were shooters, the other three the rifles shot okay, but the shotgun barrels were waaaaay off. Like hold two inches high, one inch left kinda holdover. The barrels cannot be tuned, or at least not easily.

The model 2400- Now that is a different story. I had one of those gems. Made by Valmet for Savage, you had a .308 under a ribbed 12ga and the shotgun barrel was true, true, true.. The rifle is tunable and was a shooter.

The 2400 is a much, much higher quality combo gun. You will pay more, and they are rare, but I can attest the 2400 I had was a really sweet shooting rig.

This one (the last one) 500 Combo (LPA™ Trigger), since it comes with a rifled barrel in addition to the smooth bore one. You remove the smooth-bore barrel, replace it with the rifled one, and used rifled slugs. Look at the specifications below the shotgun.

Opps! I am late to post. The OP already chose his gun.

I have two 12ga, rem 870 and this Mossberg 500 I bought back in 1982. I modified it with a Mossberg 18.25 inch barrel, new pistol grip and forarm, and shell caddy.
