I was trained to shoot from the holster in the one hand hip draw(among others). My local and convient outdoor range does not allow that manuever. I have to shoot with the firearm already at the two hand ready position or similar.

Somehow I envision in a stress fire situation that the former is more likely than the latter.

What say ye?

Is it a private club? I have a membership at a private club and drawing from the holster is allowed.

Public membership range. Absolutely no holster draws. Grounds for immediate expulsion. Safety first, always!

Our club has multiple ranges. One of them is designated as an "Action Range" (better berms) and that type of shooting is fine. Not allowed on the other ranges. We do not have range masters or any officials on any of our ranges, so there is nobody watching over you, except other shooters. If you are being unsafe, they'll darn sure let you know.

That's the way it works at our club as well. Shooters are very much on the honor system to observe safety rules and police up their brass. I think for the most part everyone follows the rules. Most of the shooters at the club tend to be very friendly, too. One old timer showed up with an M1 garande that he said had fought in WWII. He asked if I wanted to shoot a clip or two. That gun is a beauty to fire!

My long range gun is a M1 Garland, iron sights. Paid $158. and had to unwrap the cosmolien off of it and clean it up. It. was brand new, 1953 which shocked me, I was born in 1953.

No drawing from a holster at my local ranges either. Did you ever look up at the ceiling just in front of your stand ? More bullet holes than in the target.

Curious, in the second floor, just where did the bullets end up if they got through a wall or window? Even quite a few acres isn't enough distance to do that safely. Would you fire in only directions that had a very high backstop or more than a mile of open space?
