After buying 9 poly frame semis in a row over the past 15 years (my last revolver was a SP101 bought in 1993), I thought it was time for a nice hunk of American steel - a Ruger New Vaquero .357 glossy stainless finish. It is much nicer than expected:

I own and use, and like, both wheel-guns and autos. To me the revolver comes into it's own with power levels around .41 Magnum and higher - you just don't see many automatics that handle such rounds. The Auto-Mag had .44 Mag power in a cut-off custom .308 case, but it was not very successful commercially and from what I have read they tend to break down if shot a lot.

The automatic comes into it's own when you need a flat sidearm for concealed carry, or if you for whatever reason think you will need more than about 6 rounds to solve your problem.

I started out on wheel guns over 46 years ago and still like them, my wife has a sp101 in .357 that she carries from time to time and while I have Glocks, Brownings, Sig, S&W and Kahr and usually carry a Glock 27 or the Kahr E9, lately when at the range I am enjoying more and more firing my old standby S&W model 64 with a pencil barrel that I have had many years and have pachmayr grips on. I could easily go back to a wheel gun and would probably carry that model 64 if I did.

I have owned a few pistols, I still currently own a Colt Mustang and a Glock 32.
I enjoy revolvers so much more. I currently own a 44 mag Redhawk I bought new 30 years ago. 44 Special Charter Arms Bulldog. 6 22 revolvers.

Sure, they have their place. I have a litany of poly's and do like them but, I still love my SW 64, 442, and colt trooper mark V I have had for 33 years. Next up for wheel guns? SW model 686 or 686 plus, 5 inch if I can ever find it stainless beauty. 3-4 inch boot grip would work too. Whadddda gun, huh?

I have a 4" SW 686-4 & a 4" SW 629-0; love both of those revolvers, my dad has a Ruger SP101; and that is a sweet little revolvers. Still on my wish list is a 2" or 4" nickel Colt Python, I had years ago a 4" nickel Python but sold it; that was a big mistake.
