Almost drop the coinage to get it but thought, where the frack was I going to use it.

And for the thousandth time, a I think a match grade Springfield M-14 is just a dandy reach out and touch and urban street fighting if you are a mind to.
My issue with the M14 is how delicate and finicky they are compared to other systems. The accuracy is nothing to write home about, either, until much work us done, and then...handle with kidd gloves.

I have been told that the .338 is better in every way to a .50 but I am not quite sure about. I have seen a .50 penetrate an engine block and stop a vehical and I am not convinced that a .338 can do the same.

the .338 Lapua shoots flatter and has a range of about 1500 meters. it will go through an engine block too. I just prefer shooting the Barrett in 50 BMG.

Think I'll keep my sporterized 1903A3 Springfield. Paid around $20.00 for it around 1957. Not going to say how much I have put into it but it will shoot accurately as far as I need for hunting.

The folks shooting long range and in the know, which now includes our military, are shooting the 375 Cheytac. Effective range is 2500 yds. Accuracy with the right rifle and shooter can be 36" or under at 3800 yards.....that's a little over 2 1/4 miles. The 350gr bullet is traveling out of the barrel at 3200'ps with over 6700 ft lbs of energy at 200 meters. Depending on the load, it runs 30-50% flatter shooting than the 338 Lapua or 50 BMG. None of these rounds are tank killers but all will stop a vehicle as will a 12 ga solid slug at reasonable distances.

.50 is a smallish military round originally used on aircraft and later adapted to ultra long range sniper duties.

.338 is a largish hunting round used on large game and later adapted to long range sniper duties.

The .50 is much, much larger.

Compared to what, an H&K 91, maybe an FN FAL? I never had an opportunity to play with a Galil but used an M-14, under maritime conditions for a year and never experienced anything finicky much less inaccurate about the rifle.
