Was curious to know what people may have as their car gun, was thinking about a .38 special or maybe the S&W Bodyguard? Picking up a XD9 Mod2 subcompact as a carry, but want a resonable "cheap" gun to keep in the car. Thoughts?

A .38 special revolver is always a good choice. My choice for a car gun would be inexpensive (for each of us that amount would be different) and reliable, so as long as you are already carrying then a 5 or 6 shot revolver would be a good car gun but for a person who does not carry, then a higher capacity 9mm or .40 S&W for a car gun would be my choice.

For me, it would be as important to determine how the gun is held and stored in the vehicle. If it isnt one's actual carry gun then where is it placed for easy access when in the car and how secure is it when one leaves the car. This is assuming a 'car gun' means it is not carried in and out with the driver as that sort of defeats the purpose.
I dont think I would have a different gun to leave in the car; if anything perhaps add'l mags for what I carry.

Long ago, I carried a .45 LC revolver under the driver's seat or in the glove compartment.
I quit doing that several years ago, when I was making frequent trips to CA.

My car gun is the same as my house gun which is the same as my carry gun. It's the one I always carry with me. The only place your pistol should be in on your person. I don't stash pistols, I carry them, because they are pretty much useless if you can't access them immediately.

I would not keep a gun in the car when you are not in. We legal gun owners have a responsibility to keep our guns safe and unfortunately too many cars get broken into or stolen. When that happens you bear responsibility of having your guns stolen. That stolen weapon goes through different hands victimize others along the way. This gives the anti another excuse to limit gun ownership rights.

I would bring what I carried to my car/ truck and take it with me when I leave my vehicle.

Always thought one of these would be handy to have in the truck at all times.
