I really love 22 cal. firearms.
I got my first one just before turning 18 (still have it) many moons ago and although I own other caliber's, 22 LR is my favorite.
Just something about shooting them; they are so much fun.
In the past few years, I've taken to buying older 22s. You know, the ones made of real metal and wood; the 'classics' of yesterday is how I think of them. When I hold one, I feel the history of where it may have been and used for.
I imagine it being on a farm somewhere or riding in a truck with an old man or a hunter some decades ago.
I imagine it having been used by a kid on his family's farm to hunt squirrels or rabbits or control barn pests.
Do you love 22's too?

I don't know if I love them. They are fun and relatively cheap to shoot.

I got my first .22 from my grandfather when I was 12 years old.
By that time, I had been firing them at an NRA sanctioned rifle & pistol club's indoor range one night a week for about 4 years, as well as firing M1 Garands in the summer on the outdoor range. The Federal Government furnished the Garands and the ammunition under the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
I still have a couple of .22 rifles.

Yes, they are fun. stick to steel receivers and classic lines.

I really got my start in this hobby at the tender age of 50 lol; my in-laws handing me a 50’s era Colt Challenger that was their dad’s and grandfather’s. Then I got myself a Buckmark and have added a Victory to the mix as well. While i enjoy shooting other calibers, there is nothing like taking out the 22’s for some fun time at the range and property.
And while the Colt doesnt get out to play much anymore as I treat it more like a family heirloom (not a collectible but it is valuable to me); after all these decades it can still shoot well.

So yes I love my 22’s.

At the range, I always get a few sideways glances when shooting shorts out of my Single Six. That configuration has negative recoil. But my favorite is the stainless Mark II Standard. What a work of art.

Everyone loves .22.
My 10/22 is probably the one long gun (amongst 3 or 4 that I pack with me) that I most commonly bring with me to the shooting range. Who doesn't like .05 a round ammo?

The .22 is just so versatile. It isn't as popular as it once was. When I go to the range, the rimfire area is hardly used. My family and I always head there first to "warm up", before going to the other stations. I have a 1960's Remington .22 semi-auto, and a 1980's Winchester .22 magnum lever action. They will last another 3 generations at least. The Remington was the first rifle my dad purchased. It's lost most of it's finish from years of riding in the back of his pick up. He used it for rabbit control. The Winchester is almost flawless. I took my first hog with it.

Now it seems as if most are using the .17 caliber.

As a kid, shooting a single shot .22 like a Winchester Model 67A could hardly be surpassed in the fun department. Simple to use & maintain, and it was a Winchester!
