A few factors in this decision. One, my brother got a 38 and treated me to the range sessions and the 10mm was a bit much to shoot. not cheap. Two, I'm getting too old to handle the power, even the 40sw are too snappy for me.

Three, I don't have a 9mm.

I rounded all my 10mm stuff in a box and sold em all for $620.

I went 9mm shopping online and found quite a few to choose from but the transfer fees starts at $50 so I decided to go local and found this at my local range. It is used but in great shape for $400.

Shoots well and easy on recoil.

I shot a 10 mm at a range once. I could not see any reason to buy one.

Hey looks good! And you even have extra cash for some ammo and/or a beer on the way home from the range. A buddy of mine has a S&W 1076 and they do have a fairly stout recoil. Nice weapon, but 10mm ammo adds up awful fast.

I forgot to mention that it's a Beretta PX4 Storm full size. Holds 18 rounds (17+1).

I used some of the extra cash for ammo and goodies for the PX4. The rest went to groceries.

One of the barrels with the 10mm is a 9x25 Dillon. Now that is stout!

It's a bit of a niche round for sure. While it's a very capable round for defensive use, it tends to be unpleasant to shoot in more compact guns. Where the 10mm really shines--in my opinion--is out in the wilderness where you might want to protect yourself from the four legged variety of predators as well as their two legged brethren.

The 10mm is a versatile caliber. You can go from the FBI wuss loads to nuclear loads but they all cost the same. You can shoot 40sw out of the 10mm barrel and no damages had ever been reported as it's only 3.6mm shorter than the 10mm.

Also it's a very capable defense weapon like the 357 magnum. In fact, it's in the magnum class. I guess you could call it the 40sw magnum. I carried my G29 loaded with Underwood 10mm 200g XTPs for years.

Many years ago, I bought a .357 Magnum revolver. I took it to the range, fired it once, then went to town to see what I could trade it for.
Oddly enough, the short barrelled .41 Magnum revolver I found was a much nicer gun to shoot. I wish I still had it.

All my handguns use cheap, readily available ammo, 9mm and .38/.357. I save my ammo money for the weird rifle ammunition. I find the 10mm handgun more of a novelty than anything, kind of like the .50 AE.

Love my Glock 19...love the 15 +1 capacity. When I carry my little .380 with 6 rounds I almost feel naked.

I've got a S&W 686 .357 3in barrel and it's a pure joy to shoot with the right ammo of course. For me it's nothing but Winchester 110gr and I've tried pretty much everything available. The 110gr rounds fire smoothly with little recoil and it's pretty easy to fire off 7 in succession.

Can't say that with like... 180gr rounds. Those weren't even the worst though... that award goes to the Remington 125gr which when fired felt like I was shooting a 50 cal. Ouch.
