Well, actually right after our president was elected the supply of most ammo was depleted and I found that 357 rounds were impossible to find and when I did find them they were outrageously expensive, even for the range. 40 cal is VERY common and less expensive.

Also, for self defence 357 may be a bit overkill (so to speak). If you do end up having to shoot someone the round will not slow down much after passing through the intended target and may cause unwanted "collateral damage" to innocent bystanders.

I've read conflicting reports on that, but ultimately the law enforcement agencies using that cartridge seem to not have that problem, but I think with the 357 your ammo choice is much more important.

The only problem is that it's become difficult to find SIG 357 rounds. I just replaced my 357 with a 40. Much easier to find ammo and just as reliable.
Here in MI .357 Sig is easier to find than 9mm .. it's changed a little in the last couple of months but 6 months ago 9mm was tough to find.

The Walmarts near me seem to have .357 Sig in stock most of the time. It's .45 ACP that they can't seem to get, at least in my area. When they do get it, it's the expensive personal defense ammo, in boxes of 20 rounds, for about $20 a box.

That seems pretty reasonable for what I have seen lately.

proper lubrication is plenty of oil on the contact surface, even if dry, a .45acp round will cycle a gun anyhow

All caliber Glocks run bone dry. It is best not to do it though. Well, then again Glocks run pretty much no matter what!LOL...... I have a friend that has about everything I do. He got into high end 1911's about 3 years ago and sold his Glocks to help fund them. We are talking Les Baer Thunder Ranch, Springfield Armory Professional (AKA the FBI HRT and SWAT model) Wilson CQB etc.... etc... these kind start at $1,600 and go up to $2,500. After shooting these a while and experiencing the occasional FTF's and stove pipes a 1911 has from time to time he bought back two Glocks. "Maybe I'll just keep two around"!LOL...... The really funny thing is he bashed the hell out of me for a couple of years about it then he goes and buys two more back! IMO, everyone that is a serious firearm enthusiast should have at least one sitting around when you need a handgun that will work damn near 100% of the time. The people who say they are all hype and overrated have never really shot or owned one. That is stupidity talking there and just shows what a idiot and how unknowledgeable you are when it comes to firearms, especially handguns!

Not if you follow the safety rule of "know your target and what is beyond".
