I have naturally curly mixed-race hair, below my shoulders right now. (going to be cutting it shorter, it's getting on my nerves!)

I dont use shampoo anymore, and only 'wash' it with conditioner 1-2 times per week. I never comb or brush my hair, only use my fingers or a pick to fluff out certain areas. Brush and comb will frizz mine... altho i COULD comb product thru it a bit before it got so long.

I have many different products that i use - but i usually use either a creme or gel and twirl, like some have mentioned. I also use the duck-clips (6-7) to lift the top of my hair off of my scalp so it wont dry lying flat.

Then when it's almost dry i usually add some serum to prevent frizzing. My hair is hit and miss with product - depends on the weather and what IT wants to do. It used to make such nice curls, but since i've gone thru Menopause the curl has somewhat dropped - another reason why i want to cut it a bit and hope that the curl perks up.

I never blowdry or straighten my hair. If i have to dry it a little faster becuz i have to leave the house or something (i usually avoid this by preparing it the day before lol), i will blowdry it gently with a diffuser just for a short time - to give it a bit of lift and slightly dry it.

Jellybean50, using duck clips sounds like a great idea, as longer thicker hair, seems to lose height.
