I agree with a $5 tip. Yes, it's a high percentage, but low dollar amount. The hair stylist is probably not making a lot of money, so you're helping him/her.
13$ haircut I tip 2 bucks I cant afford to tip 5 bucks
I guess it depends on how often you go if you go every week are you guys saying still tip 5 bucks compared to if you go every 4 months 5 bucks would be reasonable i guess?
If you can afford it, sure tip 5 bucks, especially for great service. This is a 33.3% tip roughly.
If you want to be fair then tip anywhere from 15 to 20% which at 15 dollars will be 2.25 to 3 extra dollars.
This is just for a standard haircut, if a shampoo or actual styling is included then keep that in mind with an extra tip with an additional dollar per each additional service. A fiver would be a reasonable minimum for a cut, shampoo, and style (all at 15) but is a lot for just a cut at 15 dollars.
The true measure is this, if you walk away and feel like you were being stingy then you probably were. If you walk away feeling good that you over tipped then you probably did but at least you feel happy. Finding a happy medium is hard for some but if you walk away feeling bad that you over tipped then you probably should have given less.
the guy I went to growing up would charge $8.25 and people would typically give him $10-$12 ..... a couple years ago his rent went up so he had to up his prices to $10
a bit would depend on the type of place - for an old school barber I would probably throw $5 on a $15 charge and call it happy
the lady I use now and have used for a few years is who used to do my wifes hair ........ she charges me $15 and works in an actual salon (where she rents a chair) .... she takes her time and does a fantastic job ........ i used her since places like "fastastic great sports clips" all did a poor job - they also charged $15
I tell her she's not one of those places, so I pretend she charges me $20 and put $5 on top of that ........ so $25 for what she says is a $15 haircut
