Usually longer hair on older women make them look older...not silly. A short stylish do would be much more flattering.

In general, older women look better with a shorter hair style, maybe chin length or shorter. There ARE exceptions to this, however. I have seen some older women with good hair cuts on long hair who still look great, but that's the exception.

I have known a lady who ha d a long neck and wore her hair short. She was rather tall and was kind of hump backed (beginning osteoporosis maybe). Roughly around 70. She let her hair grow some and styled it a little like leave it to beavers mom (without the flip). It made her look so much better, I couldn't believe. So yes, sometimes a little extra makes a difference even at an older age.

I'm in my 50's now with mid-back length hair. Kept it shorter after those wild seventies, but it's not for me. I did the 80's big hair naturally, so I have that very thick, heavy hair that will fall into ringlets after I wash it. It's a pain in the rear, so I use lots of product and usually keep it up or in a braid.
In my case it's very harsh to wear it parted in the middle, so I keep soft bangs and some light layering around my face.
Happy to see the support for longer hair here. Don't get me wrong, some of the sexiest hair cuts are very short. In my case it's better to have it longer than having Bozo for a grandma!

I say cut your hair into something more fitting to your age and situation. Agree or disagree?

I have long hair and I am 54. I am told I don't look my age. I always get guessed younger, not to brag, so I can wear my hair long. I have heard I look like I am in my 30s, even was told to "stay in college", so why would I want to make myself look old?

Not always true. I love my naturally curly hair. I have plenty of years to cut it.
Why do you want other women to cut their hair so bad?

I used to be a hair stylist a few years back...I am just stating my opinion from years of experience in the field. Short stylish hairdo's on older women look better...makes them look younger. There are some older women who can wear long hair...as long as it is 'good' long hair, well kept and nicely cut. But they are few and far between.

It depends on the person.
Long hair does not look good on all face types and with all hair types, regardless of one's age.
When my hair is longish (I never let it get past my shoulders) I always wear it in a ponytail or bun. Sometimes high (on top of my head) and sometimes low (back of my neck).
Even something as minor as the positioning of the ponytail makes a great amount of difference in how I look. The low ponytail looks more professional and polished and is best for work. The high ponytail is more cute and fun, and is best for casual wear.
I personally do not look best with long hair worn down.
Long hair is not universally flattering.

People are people and they don't have to fit into a mold.
I have curly hair, it looks like bedroom hair.
But I get compliments on it.
I can't see cutting all of my hair off so I look my age.
I don't think short hair makes a woman look younger. Men say they like women with longer hair as a general rule, although a nice face and figure with short hair will definitely be attractive.
Too many women cut their hair off because they don't want to deal with it. But to me, it's much easier to put my hair in a ponytail or up than try to deal with a hairstyle. That's just my opinion, too!
