Japanese Hair Straightening
I have been reading about this process and have read rave reviews. Has anyone had this process done and if so, what were the results? Any information about this process would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Japanese have the straightest hair naturally of almost any culture, strange they should have a specila hair straightening secret.

I get it done and it's by far the best thing I've ever done!!!!! As much as I love my curly hair, it was just way too time consuming for me to style & dry, whether curly or straight. Once I had the TR done, I was able to cut my hair time from 1 hour to 15 minutes (or less). The biggest reason why I had my hair TRed was b/c I had an infant (now toddler) at home and I just didn't have the time to devote to my hair.
My hair is done at a Korean owned & run salon and they use the Liscio brand (which I highly recommend and is considered better than the others), which means I can color my hair as well.
Maintenance isn't too bad since it depends on how fast your hair grows. I've been having to go back every 5 months, but I know some girls who only go once a year.

I've had it done a total of five times over the past three years, with the last time being a little less than a year ago. For me, I needed to have it redone every six months, but some people need more often, other people can get by with less. I did it during law school, and I *loved* the fact that I didn't need to spend anytime whatsoever on it in the mornings. It really was 'wash and wear.' If I wanted a change, I used those cheapy fabric twisty curlers (yeah, that's the technical term ) on damp hair and slept with them overight to create curls.
That said, I decided to grow it out, which can be incredibly odd looking. I recently bought a GHD ceramic iron and I have to straighten the new (curly!) growth, which is approximately four inches right now. I got really tired of the boring, straight look, and I honestly didn't think it was ever the most flattering look- at least not on me. I find that when I straighten with the GHD, I still have some volume which I didn't have when the Japanese straightening. I can also create waves and curls with the GHD, and I think I am officially in LOVE with it (as well I should be for $240 ).
My hair really used to just hang there completely limp and flat with the Japanese straightening, and although it was *easy* it wasn't necessarily stylish. I honestly think that's the downside with that process. It's more than just straight- it's unnaturally straight!
I would say be very careful about who you go to. I was going to one of the best salons in Chicago and the woman that did it was fantastic. I paid about $725 (including tip), so it sure isn't cheap. Don't skimp though, because for the love of God, it's your HAIR!
I can't say that I'll never do it again, because I might, but right now I want to grow it out and then get a digital perm to create bigger, less frizzy curls than I have naturally. I really think waves/curls look a lot better on me than stick-straight.

Can anyone recommend an upscale african american hair salon in Orlando? I have an appointment at De Essence Studio in downtown Orlando this week. But I'd love a referral.

While naturally I have straight hair, I have a problem with random waves that aren't from drying, they're just... there. I was thinking about getting TRed, but I'm not sure how much it'll help. Any stylists 'round here who could tell me?
