There is a larger fee for things like coloring and perms, which I can understand to a point, because they have to use more chemical. But I totally agree with you about the short haircut being more involved.
I really think the next time I will just leave if they mention an extra fee.
They listed shampoo, cut, and blowdry for 35. They get you in the seat and tell you it will be 45. Ridiculous.
You're right, that is completely ridiculous about changing the fee once you sit in the chair. Heck with them.
I do think the pricing should be upfront. However, the extra $10 isn't for the haircut -- it's for the extra time to shampoo and blowdry. Over the course of a day, a hairdresser working on long hair exclusively is going to lose a couple of hours or more of time because it takes so much longer in terms of the other things that are not the haircut itself.
I got my hair cut & a blow dry last week. Collarbone length, layered cut. A woman in the next chair had a short cut. I was shampooed ahead of her, but the cuts started about the same time; my stylist had to take extra time to clip up sections of my hair to keep it out of the way while he cut, and then her blowdry took about 8 minutes. Mine took 20. I was being worked on for just over an hour; she was in and out in ~35 minutes.
What's next, a fee for thick hair? My stylist used to laugh when she'd give me a perm, because even with my chin length hair, it took her twice as long to wrap my hair as it did anyone else's.
Long hair fee? Is that what you call it? Just goes to show, “there are thieves in every profession.”?
I, as well, speak from experience dealing with these DISHONEST and CONDESCENDING JERKS. I spoke with an honest stylist and she told me long hair is not any more trouble, it was just a way for the stylist to get more money into their pockets. And, folks, don’t forget to give them the tip they deserve. Not a penny more!
I've never had a "long hair fee" charged. I see what others are saying about taking extra time for shampooing and conditioning, but I also agree that a short haircut often takes longer to actually cut. Plus the comment about thin and thick hair... so true! I would also be tempted to walk out. That feels like a bait and switch. If there's a range for hair qualities, list a range for the price and then at least it's not out of the blue.
