I pay $35 plus a $5 tip every 6 or 7 weeks. ( cut & blow dry). I have fine straight hair & I like it to look nice & be easy for me to style at home. When I was younger & broke, I used those cheap high street salons, but the last one I went to, butchered my hair & I was crying when I got home. Now when I find a stylist I like, I will stick with them for years.
Hmm....wonder if I could do that. Is your hair straight or wavy and do you cut it while wet or dry?
My hair is curly (big curls- when it's all one length and longer it just looks really wavy), but I typically straighten it so it's just a little wavy. I do it when it's straighter, not curly. I do it dry.
I do the same thing to my teenage daughter, and her hair is pretty straight (not stick straight, but definitely straight and not wavy). I also do hers dry.
We've both gotten compliments on it. I think it looks fantastic on my daughter, actually. It makes for long layers that frame her face beautifully. We currently both have hair down just below the bra at the longest layer (hers may be slightly longer), but I did this with my hair when it was shoulder length as well. We both have fairly thick hair (mine is thicker), and mine is more coarse and hers more fine.
I cut it straight across and it's pretty forgiving on both of us (I'm not a perfectionist ). It always turns out looking fine. I'm not sure what it would look like with very thick, stick-straight hair. I think the natural body some hair has helps in not showing any small imperfections. You could also cut it angled up or down for longer or shorter layers. I get the angles mixed up, so I stick with the straight across trick.
I go every 7-8 weeks for a wash, cut, and blowout, that costs me $48, plus tip. It was $45 but went up right around Thanksgiving.☹️
Since I haven't had highlights in 15 years, I dye my own hair every 4 weeks.....roots only. I cut my hubbys hair; wish I could cut my own, but I'd never be able to get the back layers as nice as they are.
I had to change my stylist 7 years ago, but I am very happy with her. She listens to me very well as to what I need done. I've had two other stylists over my adult lifetime. One opened her own salon, which was a little too far to travel, and the other one decided not to cut hair in her home anymore.
Color process (typically highlights, when I get them): Usually $80-$100, depending on extent of process.
Bang trim: free, from my regular stylist. $5, if I get it in the neighborhood, between reg. stylist appointments.
I tend to get my hair cut three or four times a year, bang trims every month-ish when I have bangs, and highlights anywhere from a time or two a year to several years in between. I've had the same stylist for about 7-8 years, and have followed her as she's moved to various salons in the metro. She keeps moving further out into the exurbs, though, so I really never go anymore if it's just a bang trim. For those, I hit a local place.
My husband gets a regular high-and-tight at a local shop (he is military and I think with military discount it's usually like $6). He'd be fine with me doing his with clippers, but nope. I don't cut hair.
i have been cutting it myself... just trims. and then once a year i go to get it professionally cut, but i just get it washed/cut. not blown out. it's around $30
Friend is a stylist. I treat her to a home cooked meal. Best investment, time shared with a friend.
This is how I used to get vehicle maintenance done, when I lived in my hometown. Friend was a mechanic and would do repairs in exchange for dinner. Even better deal.
