Hi! I live in a very dry climate and its actually making my hair super brittle. Could be hormones..but I doubt it. My hair stylist says she doesn't have a special treatment she can offer me. Is that possible? I need like super salon grade moisture infusion. I have hair masks and moisturizing shampoo but my hair continues to get dryer, even with regular trims. I notice a lot of these products have alcohol in them...why?? Are there any products that don't have those?? that is possibly the culprit too. I also use Morrocan oil before any heat styling..that I do maybe once a week.

What do you guys do for this?

Dry hair is bad enough to manage in a humid climate like I live in but it must be miserable in a dry climate

There is no magic cure for dry hair that your stylist can offer you so she is being honest.

Here are some that have worked for me:

1) Aussie 3-Minute Miracle Moisture

2) Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasures (the conditioner and the deep repair mask)

3) Dove Intensive Moisturizing Conditioner

4) Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oil

5) Garnier Triple Nutrition Conditioner & Shampoo

6) Alaffia whipped shea butter (leave it in for 30 minutes under a shower cap then rinse out--leave it wonderfully soft. It's also great for your skin.)

I also use Aussie leave-in conditioner and argan oils.

My hair has improved quite a bit since I started to use the combination of dry hair shampoo+conditioner with deep conditioning treatments 2x a week.

Thank you! Its rough here. It was 110 degrees today and I was afraid to be outside too long for fear of frying my hair. Trying to avoid trimming my hair more than twice a year..but i already have to go back after 3 months I just want it to grow more lol.

I'll definitely try some of those! Love the shea butter idea.

Why Is Your Hair So Dry?

The last sentence in the Web MD entry says what I was thinking. I believe dry hair can be a symptom of thyroid probs. You might want to read the entry to see if the symptoms it describes might apply to you.

I'm not having any other health symptoms though-especially nothing thyroid related. I do heat style but maybe once a week. my scalp is oily at times, other times really dry. I'll just keep any eye and see if I can improve it.

I googled "is vit E oil good for hair?" - it might be a starting point. I still use Pro-naturals hair repair system once every 6 shampoo days but I use the vit E oil if my hair starts to feel dry, just applied to the ends mainly.

How is your diet? Do you feed your hair healthy fats? I get Omega 3 from ground flaxseed that I put in my smoothie and I try to get healthy fats from avacados and oily fish like salmon. I think it helps my hair, too.

As I've aged, my hair has gotten dryer and dryer. It's so dry that it used to get frizzy, even though it was always very fine and very straight. My scalp is oily -- it was just the ends that had gotten so dry and frizzy.

I tried Nioxin cleanser (shampoo) and conditioner because someone told me that it works well on dry hair. And it really does. Now my hair is no longer dry at all and is really soft. I use the "System 2" cleanser and conditioner for thinning hair, although my hair isnt thinning any more than usual -- it's always been thin.

You might be able to get good results by using just the conditioner. I've never tried that but it's worth experimenting before you spend the money on the cleanser/shampoo too. I dont leave the conditioner on as long as recommended -- I apply it, massage it in and then wash it out right away.

There's also something called a "Scalp Treatment". Dont waste your money on that unless you're concerned about thinning hair.

Here's the Amazon info on the conditioner. You may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere. It lasts a long time because you use only a tiny dab:

Its pretty healthy. I don't eat fish and avocado every day, but I eat it regularly. I eat nuts almost every single day either raw or in a nut bar.

My hair has gotten a little thinner over the years, but funny enough, when I got off birth control last year, my hair got thicker again. I have naturally medium thick hair anyways. used to be naturally straight but over the years its gotten wavy and frizzy. Does Nioxin have different formulas for different hair types?

I've also tried washing with just conditioner but even though I only apply it on the ends, my scalp was always greasy so I had to stop that.
